Is eve just too common now??

Eve is the only name DH and I can even vaguely agree on (Ada comes a close second).

A quick google and Evie/ Eva/ Ava seem ridiculously popular... I mean, they're all lovely names but is Eve going to be chucked in with all the other variations? Is every other girl in her primary class going to be called Evie/Eve/Ava etc?

Ugh. Help please!

My personal favourite (which DH is railing against) is Claudia... But I think unless we have a really traumatic birth (yikes) I'm not going to be able to get away with name DD that!

There are a lot of longer versions of Eve but I think using it on it's own is less common. It's a beautiful name!

I like Claudia or Claudette! If you did want longer variations of Eve ice been crushing on Geneve (place name for Geneva) or Evangeline (off limits to me as it's my god daughter's name)

It is a popular name but names aren’t like they were in the 80s when we were growing up. For example there are no Oliver’s at our local (fairly large) school and that’s been the no 1 boys name for years. There are 2 Hugo’s though. I also haven’t come across any Eve’s recently but I wouldn’t be surprised if I did as I know it’s fairly popular. You could get statistically really “unlucky” and your daughter could be one of two Eves in a class. Or she could be the only one in the whole school.

Whats having a traumatic birth got to do with it. Your DH either agrees to a name or he doesn'tConfused.

I agree with you Evies Evas are everywhere. However I've not heard of an Eve for years. You have to keep in mind though she could become known as Evie. It happens a lot people adding a y sound to a name.
You just don't know with names, though. Yes you may pick a very popular name but she could still be the only one in her class or year group, even.

Hang on @lovesagoodtidy I’ve just checked the actual name stats and Eve is about to leave the uk top 200 names and Evie has been on a downward trajectory for the past 10 years! It’s about to leave the top 20. No wonder I haven’t met any! I say go for it!

mamablondie · 29/01/2020 17:06

Evie is absolutely everywhere. I know 3 under 2. Eve not so much but I guess it depends how much is bothers you?

diddlediddle · 29/01/2020 17:26

Eve is definitely classier than Evie. I like it but You'd have to work hard to stop people calling her Evie I think.

Ada is having a real moment so I wouldn't necessarily go for that. Eve is more timeless.

I like Claudia though!

DramaAlpaca · 29/01/2020 17:29

Eve is just lovely.

Showmeyourhero · 29/01/2020 17:34

Eve is really nice but incredibly popular, DC has 4 in his Pre-School class alone.

ToastandCheese · 29/01/2020 17:38

Eve/Evie/Eva is everywhere in our school playground.

Lavenderblues · 29/01/2020 17:39

Ève has become dull through overuse, I'm afraid.

Claudia is much more memorable!

bridgetreilly · 29/01/2020 17:41

No, it's still lovely and perfectly usable. I also really like Ada.

june2007 · 29/01/2020 17:45

I would say yes. But then my Daughter is a Jessica and I think that's too common at the mo too.

Ingridla · 29/01/2020 17:46

Not that you asked but I don't actually like it, it's common, yes.

Farmgrl1111 · 29/01/2020 18:54

Eve is lovely

CallofDoodee · 29/01/2020 18:56

I really like Eve, and much more than Evie, which is bloody everywhere and no where near as classy.

Also love Eva.

MikeAlphaMike · 29/01/2020 19:09

Eve is lovely, and probably less overused than the longer versions.
I don't like Ada.
Claudia is ok, but Claudine is really nice.

Buxbaum · 29/01/2020 20:48

Eve is lovely but there are many many variations of Eva around at the moment. My DD was in a class with a two Evas (eeva and evva), an Ava and an Aoife.

How about Evelyn?

EstebanTheMagnificent · 29/01/2020 20:49

Ada always makes me think of ‘fucking Ada’.

HalfBloodPrincess · 29/01/2020 20:52

I have children ranging from 8 months to 16 years and I've never come across an Eve in all that time!

Roodledoodlenoodle · 29/01/2020 20:53

Eve wasn’t even in the official top 100 baby girl names for the UK last year. So everybchance of being the only Eve in her class.

Evie was number 12 and Eva number 37 however so more popular.

ShyTown · 29/01/2020 21:00

I don’t think Eve is massively popular in its own right- probably more that unless you personally know any Eves then it blends into similar names like Evie, Eva, Ava, Evelyn, Aoife and that makes it seem like there are a lot more around than there actually are. A friend of mine has an Evie and she’s the only one in her nursery. And then I take DD to a toddler group where 3 out of the 10 children are called Quinn which you’d probably expect to be quite unusual. You can’t really predict it- if you love the name then I’d go for it!

DinosaurDreams · 29/01/2020 21:02

I know one older woman called Eve.

Lots of Evie/Eva/Ava ranting in age from about 4-16 yrs, though.

DinosaurDreams · 29/01/2020 21:03

ranging!
