Saw a thread the other day and someone mentioned Hecate! I love it but could never saddle a child with it. We played very safe with our name choices but if I was to throw caution to the wind, we would have some very out there names

Girls

Hecate
Calista
Calliope
Olympia
Giovanna
Zola
Athena

Boys

Hudson
Lorenzo
Ira
Cassius
Carey
Troy
Calvin
Solomon
Tate
Roman

I love and would use a lot of these names.

BelfastNonBlonde · 28/01/2020 10:25

@Royallyscrewed
I mean I love the names - just feel odd not using them for winter babies!!

Not sure husband would agree to them anyway - but on my list for second names for sure.

@EugeniaGrace my DH is the same. He’s set on top 100 names and nothing outside of that! I managed to get him to number 70ish in the charts but any further down than that is too unusual for his tastes

steppemum · 28/01/2020 10:37

There was an Isis in my NCT group.
At the time I thought what a pretty name it was.

She would be 17 now. I often wonder if she changed her name.
Her brother had a fab name that I would have stolen if we had another boy, but better not put it here as the 2 together would be identifiable.

I also knew a family with 3 kids. 2 boys with veyr ordinary names (think James and George) and then a daughter called Hermione. So unusual, so pretty. She would ahve been about 3 when harry Potter was published

SirChompsAlot · 28/01/2020 10:40

The girls name I want the most is Vivacia Grin Hubs says no way... and then says he really like Persephone Hmm 🤣

marmitecheesetoast · 28/01/2020 14:39

I’ve always loved Persephone for a girl, I see that’s come up a few times!

I also love Magnus for a boy but not brave enough for either! (If I was Scandinavian I would definitely use it though!)

bluemoon2468 · 28/01/2020 18:01

I've always loved the name Rett for a boy but wouldn't use it.

MikeAlphaMike · 28/01/2020 19:24

Isn't it Rhett?

BikeRunSki · 28/01/2020 19:39

When I was expecting DD 8.5 years ago, I really wanted to call her Isis. Fortunately for her DH is more politically aware than me, and her she is called something completely different.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 28/01/2020 19:53

our twins were going to be called Herod and Salome
Grin Grin Grin
That would have been VERY brave!

Some of the Old English names are great - Hereward was actually on our list.

I know someone who knows a Mercutio.

Frankly, if you like a name and it won't foul up the child's life (or school career), just go for it.

TeaAddict235 · 31/01/2020 16:14

@Xigris Amarachi is sooo beautiful!! Damn! It drips beauty and grace and sophistication everything that I ain't Grin
It doesn't matter if the name is from another culture, a beautiful name is a beautiful name. My name is an African name and I'm not from there, but my mum had read up during her sociology degree back in the day and had fallen in love with the name. My dad was away in the army and had no choice GrinGrinplus my name won me an interview once as the interviewer just had to meet the lady with the name from her husband's culture!

@WooMaWang Yannick is gorgeous!!! I imagine a handsome lovely young man, with the charisma & intelligence of Obama, and with the outdoor skills of Bear Grylls Grin

Ah, I could have had an Amarachi and a Yannick. Absolutely beautiful names.

DataColour · 31/01/2020 17:09

My son is Atticus, it was a brave decision 11yrs ago, but not had any negative comments, only positive. I love it even now!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 31/01/2020 18:02

I always called my sims the names I was too afraid to use. Always had a Celestine on the go

goldenorbspider · 31/01/2020 21:07

Atticus is a lovely name! And looking at this thread it's very popular

WooMaWang · 01/02/2020 10:03

@goldenorbspider There's Manon in the later books in Sarah j Mass's Throne of Glass series.

@TeaAddict235 That's doesn't really describe the Yannick I know. But he is only 7 so it would be odd if it did.

pollysproggle · 01/02/2020 15:42

I would love to call my expected baby son Elvis but husband is having none of it.
