My two daughters are called Lyla and Violet. While i love both names I worry I have made a mistake.
Please can you give me your honest thoughts about what commented that will face when they are kids/grown up so I can prepare myself?
My youngest is older than 1 so I can't change her name.

I love those names! Why would there be an issue with either of them?

Notsure94 · 23/01/2020 09:07

They're lovely names. I'd have used Violet if I'd had girls.

Showmeyourhero · 23/01/2020 09:07

Really lovely names OP! Nothing to worry about at all Smile

Mumma4262 · 23/01/2020 09:10

Violet is my favourite girls name. Mum always says “she will be called Vi”. But my boys names don’t ever get shortened. Nothing wrong with Lyla, but Violet is gorgeous.

Spied · 23/01/2020 09:11

While not names I would choose I honestly can't see an issue with either of them.
They are perfectly normal names and am sure your dd's will come across other girls with these names.

Bluntness100 · 23/01/2020 09:15

These are totally normal names.

Do you have something else going on? Maybe some pnd or ocd etc? Because there is nothing to worry about here.

Dreame2019 · 23/01/2020 09:16

Thank you. I worry that the two names together will leave them open to comments as they go through life.

Lovely names. You have nothing to worry about

Amys136 · 23/01/2020 09:18

Lovely names. I don’t think there’s any problem with them separately or together

Sandsnake · 23/01/2020 09:18

They’re lovely. Genuinely. And I think they sound fine together! They have a similar sound, yes, but certainly not ‘rhymy’ and doubt I would have noticed if you hadn’t mentioned it.

SundayMorningSun · 23/01/2020 09:20

Nothing to worry about.

As they go through life they'll be less of a pair anyway, as they start to do different things, if you're worried about how they sound together for some reason.

WhatAGreatDay · 23/01/2020 09:25

The names are fine. You say you're worried about the two names together? Is that because Lyla sounds a bit like lilac so they're both types of purple or that they have the same "i" sound? I don't think most people would notice or care.

Dreame2019 · 23/01/2020 09:32

Yes that's it. Someone made a comment and I already worried that I had made a mistake.

Whatsyourflava · 23/01/2020 09:55

Sorry don’t see a problem here. I think you’re creating a problem where there isn’t one @ OP

So what if someone misheard? So what even if they were two colour names? Really not a big thing. I doubt anyone beyond you could care less

MikeUniformMike · 23/01/2020 10:53

The names are fine. I prefer Leila to Lyla but Lyla means night and is an Arabic name.

I would say Violet as Vie-o-let, so there isn't a repetition of isle in the two names.

They are perfectly ok as names for sisters.

embarrasing · 23/01/2020 11:43

Those names are fine! Don't know why your worried? Pretty names

LouisaJenny · 23/01/2020 11:44

What was the comment, OP?

I’d use Violet if I had a girl.

Dreame2019 · 23/01/2020 11:56

Aw violet and lilac that's cute the 2 colours together which is not a bad comment but for when they are older will they resent me? I chose their names as they have so much meaning behind both.

OldEvilOwl · 23/01/2020 11:59

Two lovely names, don't see any problems at all

INeedNewShoes · 23/01/2020 12:01

Honestly this is just not an issue! Lovely names and most people won't even give them a fleeting thought.

Marcipex · 23/01/2020 12:08

They’re pretty names and go together well. They’re not Harry, Barry and Larry.
I don’t see any issue.

BobbyBlueCat · 23/01/2020 12:13

I don't like Lyla.
I really like Violet.

I don't like the sound of them said one after that other, but not because of the purple theme. There's just too many of the 'eye' sounds together.
lEYEla and vEYEolet.

But how often, apart from when they're little and both misbehaving, are you going to have to say both names together? Hardly ever.
And individually, they're fine.

daisypond · 23/01/2020 12:14

I don’t see an issue. Did someone mishear and thought Lilac instead of Lyla?

Bluerussian · 23/01/2020 12:15

I've never heard of Lyla. Layla, yes. Lyla sounds odd, where did you get it from?

Violet is a lovely name.

inwood · 23/01/2020 12:16

A friend of mine has just had twins, one of them is Violet and I think it's lovely. Honestly for Lyla I think I would prefer Lyra, seem to go a bit better together.
