I know a 40 year old Jamie. Grew up with lots of them.

Jaime or Jaimie would confuse me as to desired pronunciation. I'd have a go at Hay - May!

I'd use Jamie every time.

But personally not keen for girls.

My DH has a cousin called Jaimie KeepCooking and you are not far off, though I'd say it sounds more like High-meh. Of course everywhere has variations in pronunciation according to region, so his way might not be the only way.

I live in Spain. The Spanish pn J as H/Y, so Jai = Hay, the me in this is pn more like meer. So Hay-Meer, but rolled into one word.

My ex's brother was Jaime.

Jack is pn Yak here.

Never heard it pronounced Hay-meer and I have lived in Spain and speak Spanish. I would pronounce it something closer to High-may.

At the start of this thread I told OP her spelling was wrong and there is no second i.

Jaime is High-may. I have know people with this name and I speak Spanish!

Not sure where in Spain you are but that is the standard Castilian pronunciation.

All names are ‘made up’ though aren’t they? Didn’t Shakespeare invent Imogen? The point being every name is just a combination of sounds that people like the sound of. No more, no less. The convention of spelling words with one ‘proper’ spelling is also a fairly recent thing and if people want to spell names a different way then that’s up to them. I’m also laughing my head off at Jamie ‘starting to be name in it’s own right’...I know Jamie’s my dads age, I certainly know far more Jamie’s than James’s my own age and I’m 40. It’s been it’s own name for a very long time.

It really is. I live in a major city and have been here over 11 years with DC in school and all their friends, so I have come across a awful lot of names.

They are 2 separate names.

Obviously not everyone in Spain speaks with the same accent, just like in the UK, someone from Newcastle has a different accent to someone in Brighton.

In English speaking countries (UK/US) Jaimie is quite well known as the female spelling on Jamie.

Thanks folks, resolved. Jamie it is. Saved us resorting to roshambo, which is how we generally solve all disputes in our house but didn’t feel quite right for babies name, lol.

I know a few adult men Jamie it really isn't "babyish" anyway don't faff about with speling he will be correctiing it all his life .
