Emily or Annabelle to go with Charlotte?

I’m struggling between Emily and Annabelle for Charlotte’s sister’s name...

I think Charlotte is elegant, classy, classic and timeless, with beautiful and sweet pronunciation. I decided to use this name without any hesitation at that time...

Which pair is the most matching to Charlotte, matching maybe in terms of whether they both share similar feelings (like elegant, classy, classic and timeless), how they sound together, etc., I don’t know...

And as well as looking at the names individually (not in a pair with Charlotte), Emily vs. Annabelle, which one would be more preferable?

Any thoughts and suggestions would be highly appreciated! Thanks all!

I find Emily stale. Bland. A bit wet.

bridgetreilly · 20/01/2020 09:48

Annabel.

thrree · 20/01/2020 09:56

I don't really like either. I like the suggestion of Alexandra or Elizabeth.

Menubar · 20/01/2020 09:57

Annabelle.

Urkiddingright · 20/01/2020 10:50

I prefer Annabel but I think the recent horror movie has deterred a few people.

Very much appreciate your comments, but it’s really tough to make a decision!

Not keen on either but Emily is much better than any form of Annabelle. It's ok but so overused.

Emmeline or Emilienne would be better, I think.

NoSauce · 22/01/2020 06:37

Emilienne is that even a name? Looks daft to me.

OP how about Alice, Harriet, Lucy, Florence, Madeleine? They would go well with Charlotte.

But out of Emily and Annabel I would choose the latter. Emily is drab.

MrsBertBibby · 22/01/2020 07:52

Yes it's French. I came across an English Emilienne recently, I think it's very pretty.

Mamabear88 · 22/01/2020 08:54

Emily and Charlotte sound lovely together

BobbyBlueCat · 22/01/2020 09:20

I think either choice is very pretty and timeless and both go equally well.
You can't wrong with either of these, OP.

MrsCantthinkofaname · 22/01/2020 09:27

I prefer Annabelle and I agree with others that Emily seems a bit bland. It does sound pretty with Charlotte though.

I also love the Alexandra and Elizabeth suggestions and think they’d go beautifully with Charlotte.

Roselilly36 · 22/01/2020 09:29

Emily

angieloumc · 22/01/2020 09:56

What about Isabelle if you like Annabelle? Though I myself prefer the spelling Isabel.

ImportantWater · 22/01/2020 10:00

Definitely Emily.

SeaScape98 · 22/01/2020 10:17

I teach an Emilianna, kind of a combination between the two. NN is Mills or Millie.

jfoyo26 · 22/01/2020 12:27

Emily!

I love this name - think the Bronte association is pretty cool.

The only reason we decided not to use this name is we know far too many!

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 22/01/2020 12:37

Not Annabelle, such a prissy name.

Emily is ok.

I think Alice, Florence or Emilienne (sp) is better.

marmitecheesetoast · 22/01/2020 13:44

I like Emily better, it goes nicely with Charlotte and I like the brontë connection! Emmeline is also really pretty and could be shorted to Emily / Emmy?

April45 · 24/01/2020 22:36

Annabel.. it goes lovely with Charlotte

Bol87 · 25/01/2020 14:36

Oh I like this thread! I have an Annabel and she is FOREVER having her name spelt as Annabelle! Or because people know it’s not the ‘norm’, we get Anabel, Anabell, Annabell.. sometimes we get comments that didn’t we wish we’d just spelt it Annabelle 🙄

Obviously a tad biased but I like Annabelle Grin We use Annie as a nickname!

Happyandglorious · 27/01/2020 17:54

I like both but would go with Emily bc I think it ages better. Whereas Annabelle is more of a little girl name to my ears.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 27/01/2020 18:20

Definitely Emily. As well as the Brontes, they are sisters in Rumer Godden's The Dolls' House.

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 27/01/2020 18:24

Annabelle - Emily is too meh for me

aibutohavethisusername · 29/01/2020 02:16
