Girls names - opinions please!

I'm currently expecting DC3, definitely the last DC and a first and only girl!
I have 2 DS, isaac and elliot, so looking for a girls name to go with them.
These are the conditions though:
Surname is a very common surname beginning with J so ideally no J names (I don't like alliterative names)
Middle name will likely be Margaret and possibly Elsie for great grandparents
Nothing too popular due to the common surname

My list at the moment

Alice
Matilda
Abigail
Elizabeth
Eleanor (too similar to elliot?)
Martha
Zara
Dorothy
Faye
Penelope
Felicity
Lucy

I'd appreciate any opinions or other suggestions

Thanks!

I'm not keen on Dorothy, Eleanor or Martha.

I think Alice and Abigail work with your ds names

How about Imogen?

Tsubasa1 · 15/01/2020 19:55

I think Alice Margaret would sound great. Isaac Eliot and Alice sound great together!

MikeUniformMike · 15/01/2020 20:23

Alice - love
Matilda - overpopular
Abigail - really like
Elizabeth - love
Eleanor (too similar to elliot?) - too similar
Martha - it's ok and goes well with the other names
Zara - nice
Dorothy - cute. Love Dot
Faye - prefer Fay
Penelope - ok, but will be Penny
Felicity - no. too long and prissy
Lucy - love it and it goes well with the brother's names

I really like Abigail too.

Urkiddingright · 15/01/2020 21:55

Martha, Matilda and Penelope are my favourites. Dorothy makes me picture Dot Cotton.

YikesFeelSoStressed · 15/01/2020 22:05

Martha & Alice are VERY popular.

Astronica · 15/01/2020 22:53

I also think it's a lovely list. Only 2 I'm not keen on: Martha and Faye. I would cross off Eleanor, though lovely, as you already have Elliot. If you use Felicity would it be the same name as the actress? Abigail is a favourite for you as it's possibly less popular than some of the others. With the brothers and the surname I particularly love: Alice, Matilda, Abigail, Zara and Penelope in particular. My other suggestion is Adelaide.

CalleighDoodle · 15/01/2020 22:54

Felicity.

MrsBertBibby · 15/01/2020 23:55

Zara and Penelope are the best on your list. Not keen on the rest.

Nina
Tamsin
Edith

I had my third child ( girl) last year and if she were a boy she would have been Elliot so we have similar tastes. Alice. Martha, Matilda and Penelope were all on our girls list so they are my favourites. All beautiful, timeless names xxx

Thanks everyone, hopefully we'll be able to narrow down the shortlist

Alice - this is my absolute favourite!
Matilda - love, also love Madeline which is similar
Abigail - okay but seems a bit dated
Elizabeth - dated!
Eleanor (too similar to elliot?) - love but too close!
Martha - love
Zara - too common
Dorothy - love but very dated
Faye - sounds very old ladyish
Penelope - love!
Felicity - not a fan
Lucy - love!

LIKE:

  • Alice - very sweet and a ggod match with your boys' names...and starts with a vowel too.
  • Elizabeth- love the name with plenty of abbreviation options if you like that kind of thing. Sweet with Elsie as a middle name too...
  • Zara - lke the name but not sure it's a good match with your boys names.
  • Lucy...sweet and pretty. timeless.

NOT SO KEEN:
Matilda
Abigail
Eleanor...and yes far too similar to Elliot i think
Martha
Dorothy - i really dislike this to be honest
Faye - not a fan at all
Penelope - nope...and not right with the boys' names
Felicity - nope...

Alice, Abigail or Elizabeth x

Starshapeddreams · 20/01/2020 20:57

Abigail is my favourite (I have one) it's a great name, not too popular at the minute but well known.
It also fits well with your boys names. I'd not be bothered about the friends sister thing, a bit of a tenuous link .

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 20/01/2020 21:06

Alice. It fits perfectly with your boys' names (and is also my DD's middle name, not that I am in any way biased Wink).

A lovely list, (not 80s at all). Favourites Alice, Matilda, Martha and Eleanor.

TatianaLarina · 20/01/2020 21:42

Martha, Zara or Matilda. Don’t like the others.

limesandlychees · 20/01/2020 21:57

Love Elizabeth! Think I can guess your surname (am assuming one syllable?) and I think it would go really well with it. Plus Lizzie as a nn is one of my fave names and would also go well with surname.
