Just that, which spelling do you like best? I would think Graham is the more common? Would he forever have to spell it if the other was used?

Graeme

ClappyFlappy · 03/01/2020 22:59

I thought both spellings were Scottish.

I probably prefer Graham

With dh having a Scottish surname, if go with Graeme.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/01/2020 23:02

I like the look of Graeme more, but what puts me off is that when we were doing Latin at school, our teacher pointed out that the Graeme in our class would be pronounced Grimy in Latin. I realise this is my issue though and unlikely to be a day to day concern!

I find it hard to chose between two spellings of a name that I don’t like, sorry! So many lovely Scottish names to choose from. I like Angus and Hamish and Rory.

WoodliceInSunderland · 03/01/2020 23:20

I like Graham.
I have a good friend called Graeme and it always makes me think of a Creme Egg when I see his name written down. Blush

IncrediblySadToo · 03/01/2020 23:24

With your Scottish surname I’d go with Graeme.

But as you’ve said you’re not sure about it I’m going to say, I personally think it’s dated and too early for a comeback! Like Sharon or Tracy.

There are some lovely Scottish names - try again 😊

@Letthemysterybe DC1 is one of the names you e mentioned :)

Thanks for replies, think I'll go back to the drawing board. Back to browsing the name boards 😩

Graham

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 04/01/2020 06:35

My brother is Graeme.
In my head I always pronounce Graham as gray ham.

CountFosco · 04/01/2020 06:48

I prefer Graeme (I'm Scottish if that makes a difference) but would always ask since I know people with both spellings. They should both be pronounced the same but the Grahams at school were called Grey Ham to tease them. I don't think the name is dated though, it's fairly timeless and traditional, I know boys and men with the name.

Thorn90 · 04/01/2020 06:49

Are you giving birth to a 50 year old man?

AlliKaneErikson · 04/01/2020 23:54

I met a young child of about 6 or 7 today called Graham- I hadn’t heard the bane for ages so it was strange to see a thread about it!

AlliKaneErikson · 04/01/2020 23:54

*name!!

Threeminis · 04/01/2020 23:59

Graeme.
But, as pp have said, I'm from Scotland

Queenest · 05/01/2020 00:06

Neither. I know 2 men in their 50s/60s called Graham and they both get called Gray for short. Odd name really. Unless you’re Graham Norton who I can’t imagine with any other name.

How about Hamish or Scott instead?! Grin

MoonlightMistletoe · 05/01/2020 00:35

Graham
