Only early days but thinking of names. I have got 4 whole weeks to go until i have my 8 week scan so I’m keeping busy . DH is enjoying name choosing with me and we’ve got a few we like . Opinions ? We want unique but socially acceptable names lol

If it’s a girl 👧🏼
Alia Rosalie
Bronwyn Rose

If it’s a boy 👦🏼
Ezra Paul
Arthur Paul

I totally agree with @saucery

Saucery · 28/12/2019 22:53

It’s just something about the way you have to form the ‘a’ and then the ‘ar’ between the names. Makes it interesting. Smile

RuthW · 28/12/2019 23:11

Alia is the only unique name on your list. I know a baby Bronwyn and loads of Ezras and Arthur is the most popular name I know at the moment.

GaaaaarlicBread · 29/12/2019 05:46

@RuthW no Ezras in our area so it’s quite unique here but I see what you’re saying .
What about the name Alessa as well? That’s another one we like

I love the name Ezra

daisypond · 29/12/2019 09:00

Bronwen and Arthur. It has to be Bronwen with the E. Wyn is a masculine ending, wen is a feminine ending.

RandDandC · 29/12/2019 09:43

Alia

CatteStreet · 29/12/2019 09:45

Alia = 'other', 'stranger' (roughly).

I'd go with Bronwyn but a different middle name (Rosalie is faddily popular and Rose is the generic middle name currently, along with Grace) and Arthur Paul (not Ezra, makes me think of Ezra Pound who was not a pleasant character).

GaaaaarlicBread · 29/12/2019 10:13

@catte do you know any nice unique middle names ? Bronwyn Isabelle ? Our surname begins with an L and is two syllables x

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliya

Aliya/Alia is the feminine form of the Muslim boys name Ali & it means exalted or high.

CatteStreet · 29/12/2019 10:32

IIWY I might go retro and go with Louise Grin - generic middle name of my generation and now unjustly underused, almost to the point of being 'unique'. Or how about Jane?

CatteStreet · 29/12/2019 10:33

PrettyPurpleFeather, with the Aliya spelling that makes sense, but seeing Alia I think Latin.

SundayMorningSun · 29/12/2019 10:39

Bronwen is lovely - the y would make it a male name, though.

PrettyPurpleFeather · 29/12/2019 10:40

Ahh I see, it can also be spelt Alia as I've got a Muslim friend who spells it this way. Anyway the meaning is nicer than the Latin version!

GaaaaarlicBread · 29/12/2019 11:17

@CatteStreet I know too many people with the middle name Louise here , it’s so overused 😅 but Jane is lovely !!

@SundayMorningSun ah thank you :)

@pretypurple yes that’s a lovely meaning :) thank you

Bronwen not Bronwyn.
Don't like Ezra at all.
Alia - Al-ya? Al-ee-a? Ale-ya? Al-eye-a?
Arthur is ok

GaaaaarlicBread · 29/12/2019 13:11

@MikeUniformMike thank you . My mum is welsh and Bronwyn is the female spelling but I can see why people are saying Bronwen .

Alia- (Ale-ya )

Cookit · 29/12/2019 13:12

I love Bronwen. But yes, please make sure to use the female version of the name!

MikeUniformMike · 29/12/2019 13:48

@itsemily,
Welsh words are either feminine or masculine. Everything is a he or she, there's no it.
The adjective white (or blessed) is gwyn or gwen, depending on what it describes. For example, a white dog is "ci gwyn" but a white cat is "cath wen".
When it comes to names, many end in wyn or wen - Gwyn, Gwen, Arwyn, Alwen, Anwen, Berwyn, Cledwyn, Cledwen, Ceridwen, Ceinwen, Meirwen, Heulwen etc.

The -wyn names are boys' names, the - wen names are girls' names.

Bronwyn isn't a boy's name, but it looks masculine. The correct spelling is Bronwen.

FluffyEggsontoast · 29/12/2019 14:25

Ezra is a great name. A classic and I love the Z in it

Astronica · 30/12/2019 11:37

Bronwen and Arthur - great names!

Bronwen Alice? Arthur Paul works well.

GaaaaarlicBread · 30/12/2019 12:01

@FluffyEggsontoast we do too! Thank you !
@astronica love the Browen Alice thanks !
