Name compromise advice and suggestions

Hi all, new to mumsnet and 34 weeks pregnant. We don’t know the gender, but me and DH are poles apart on what we like-he likes very American/Afro-American/rapper names Eg Ledanian, Leroy and I like old fashioned (but not boring) names eg Poppy, Ernie (we’re white English). There’s going to need to be some compromise, but just wanted some thoughts on his rather unusual choices or any other name suggestions that might be a good compromise! Any favourites from below?! Thanks 🙏

Boys names:
Baker
Rocco
Tate
Emerson
Codey
Corey

Girls names:
Addison (he thinks of taxis!!)
Maddison
Miley (too Cyrus?!)
Riley
Hudson (I think more boys but could work for a girl?)

Hmmm I don’t think we have the same taste in names really. I like unusual names but don’t really like any of the ones you’ve listed apart from Emerson (which is classy and nice) and I think Maddison is ok. Really dislike many of the others especially Miley and Addison. I’ll give you some suggestions but I doubt you’ll like any of them seen as we have such different taste. I definitely prefer the names you’ve suggested, your husbands suggestions are horrible!

How about Rudy/Rudi for a boy? It sort of meets some of your criteria?

Ones with good nicknames:

Christopher nn Kit
Wilf(red)
Barnaby
Nathan/Nathaniel - Nate
Rafferty / Raffy
Sidney

Other ideas:

Eli
Ellis
Miles / Milo
Seth
Cole
Otis
Eric
Casper
Dexter
Blake
Angus
Dominic
Idris
Percy

Slightly more out- there

River
Bodhi
Otto

Boys names:
Baker - Ok as a surname.Crap as a 1st name.
Rocco - Like Madonna's DS
Tate - & Lyle
Emerson - Emma for short
Codey - not keen
Corey - not keen

Ernie and Poppy sound a lot better than your list, but I'm not keen on Ernie. Something to do with milkcarts.

Girls names:
Addison (he thinks of taxis!!) - yep. Uber?
Maddison - awful. Madison is slightly better
Miley (too Cyrus?!) - too Curys
Riley - makes me think of the verb To Rile
Hudson (I think more boys but could work for a girl?) - no. Use it for a boy but not for a girl.

Prefer Codey spelt Cody. There is something very lovely about that name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/12/2019 14:26

Boys names:
Baker - I dislike it
Rocco - seems chavvy sorry
Tate - it's OK, not my style but OK
Emerson - dislike it
Codey - it's OK spelt Cody
Corey - prefer for a girl as a nn for Cornelia or Cornelia

Cody or Tate I would consider from your list

Girls names:
Addison (he thinks of taxis!!) - I don't like it but Addie is cute. Adelaide? Adalyn?
Maddison - it's OK spelt Madison
Miley (too Cyrus?!) - it's OK, not too Cyrus to me as I know a 6 year old Miley
Riley - nice enough
Hudson (I think more boys but could work for a girl?) - awful for both

Girls list is definitely better than the boys

Really don't like any of your husband's choices. Your ideas are much nicer,!

DerbyshireGirly · 29/12/2019 08:36

These are all a bit "Essex", sorry.

Whatsyourflava · 29/12/2019 08:53

I like Emerson but not really any of the others
