Which of these names do you prefer and do you have any other similar suggestions?

I love Etta, id not be able to use it due to our / the local accent I know the T's would be dropped and ruin the name. Where do you live?

diddlediddle · 15/12/2019 16:00

Of course people won't be thinking of a town in northern England OP. Blythe is a nice name. Etta blends in to a lot of other names in my mind. Blythe is a bit more solid.

puds11 · 15/12/2019 16:13

Call her Blythe then Hmm

OublietteBravo · 15/12/2019 16:15

It’s not like calling a child Scarborough. It’s more like calling them Adelaide or Virginia. People might associate it with the place, but it’s a totally normal and well-established name.

minipie · 15/12/2019 16:20

I like Blythe, though more as a middle name. Etta is ok.

Edie
Mara
Maeve
Tess

Buttons4me · 15/12/2019 16:21

Blythe is awful just like the town Blyth. Horrific.

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 15/12/2019 16:41

“Horrific” Grin - only on mumsnet would a perfectly normal name get called horrific.

Thanks all for the input.

Blythe is fine if you're 90. I can't imagine a baby Blythe, sorry. Etta is fab! Reminds me of Etta James.

balletpanda · 15/12/2019 17:10

Love Etta hate Blythe

Rainbowqueeen · 15/12/2019 17:18

Hate Etta, love Blythe

Etta sounds really harsh to me plus the whole “eat a” thing would put me off

CottonSock · 15/12/2019 17:19

Etta

ooooohbetty · 15/12/2019 18:05

Blythe is a town in the North East. Not really a name to me. Etta is ok.

PlantPotting · 15/12/2019 18:09

I love them both.

Bette - no.

Cbeebiesrehab · 15/12/2019 18:14

I love both, think Etta wins for me though.

However OP I think as you feel very passionately about Blythe...you’ve found your name.

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 15/12/2019 20:30

@Cbeebiesrehab this is a very good point

I love Etta or Ettie
Another similar that's nice is Hattie x

Lobsterquadrille2 · 15/12/2019 22:10

I like Etta as an abbreviation of Henrietta. Blythe is nice - the only one I can think of is Gwyneth Paltrow's mother (I think).

Astronica · 15/12/2019 22:43

I love Blythe. Not keen on Etta.

Claphands · 15/12/2019 22:47

Like Etta, really not keen on Blyth-I do think it also depends on your accent. Similar names to Etta would be Ina, Ena, Ida.

villamariavintrapp · 15/12/2019 22:51

Don't like Etta because of the terrorist association, it also doesn't feel like a full name. Not that keen on Blythe, but definitely the better of the two.

VenusClapTrap · 16/12/2019 09:06

Not keen on either, but Etta is marginally better.

I really wouldn’t consider Blythe a classic name.

FizzyGreenWater · 16/12/2019 17:24

Etta is so DUMPY.

Like Blythe a lot but it's marmite!

TheBossOfMe · 16/12/2019 17:46

In my mind:

Blythe is blond and willowy. A bit Grace Kellyish.

Etta is dark eyed and fiery. More like Sophia Loren.
