The time of year a baby is born...

Does it render some names ridiculous?

For example, would it be daft to call a baby born in July something like April, January, Noel or Autumn.

Or a Christmas baby Summer or Meadow?

I think your thoughts are right in line.

I don't think it would be that weird. I think maybe the very winter months might be a bit strange for a child called Summer and vice versa for Winter but I think you could use those names in the other three seasons.

For names like January, April and June I think you could use them any time. It think it's more naff if they're born in that month and I see them more as individual names than as months. Really love those three names actually, especially January!

I think it's fine. Names don't have to make literal sense.

Susannach · 25/11/2019 08:48

I don’t see an issue. They’re just names, especially the more common/traditional ones like Summer, June, April, May, Autumn.

Gallivespian · 25/11/2019 08:55

I know a Nollaig (Irish for Christmas) born in August, and she’s said she gets very tired of the same old joke/remark from anyone who knows her birthday.

Practicalmagico · 25/11/2019 09:21

I think if anything, it’s more weird for a Christmas baby to be called Noelle or a summer baby to be called Summer.
Makes it seem like you didn’t really like the name but just wanted to take inspiration from the time of year

MissHenty · 25/11/2019 10:07

Totally agree with your post @Practicalmagico

I really don’t think it matters. If you love the name summer- for example- just use it!

bridgetreilly · 25/11/2019 13:10

I think it's fine, mostly. I feel like giving them a 'theme name' for their birthday is a bit ridiculous, tbh. If you like the name, use it no matter when they happen to be born. It'll be their name all year round.

FartnissEverbeans · 25/11/2019 16:05

It’s fine

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/11/2019 16:08

I would think it’s odd but ultimately no ones business what name you use

Flymetothestars · 25/11/2019 16:19

Yeh it’s irrelevant - just pick a name you like

DontCallMeDaisy · 25/11/2019 16:19

Thanks everyone - I really love January and Robin but I'm due in June and I can't help thinking it'd be a little odd. DP also really likes Autumn and Meadow. I'm not sure why we're going for so many time of year names! We're not too far in the baby name choosing process, so we're happy to shelve ideas at the moment before we get attached.

January and Robin are both really fab names that are in no way strange to give a child born in June. I think it's much weirder to do it the other way around

Prettylittlelady · 25/11/2019 21:26

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being named ‘summer’ in a winter month - maybe the summer time is significant to the parents for some reason.
At the end of the day, how many people - apart from very close friends/family - do you know their date of birth? You wouldn’t meet a summer for the first time and say ‘what’s your birthday?’ So I think it’s being a little overthought.
