Hm, they have posh vibes to me, heightened if they are together as a pair. I used to think Hugo was very posh - the only one I know is - but that’s changing now. Francis too. I want to like it, but the cis ending just makes me think sissy. One without the other would be better. Hugo and John. Or Francis and Hugh. But I really like that they don’t end in -ie.

Starfish83 · 24/11/2019 16:05

Love them both. :-)

In my Dad's family the oldest son was called Francis or Hugh in alternate generations, going back hundreds of years. These were Irish peasants, btw! Fashions change, Hugo is a nice alternative to Hugh but I don't see it as posh.

Hugo is lovely
Francis is awful

Spied · 24/11/2019 16:33

Together they sound right the pairHmm

Grufallosfriends · 25/11/2019 07:02

I know boys called Hugo, Quentin and Francis and they're lovely boys/teens.

Namaste6 · 25/11/2019 07:24

Love Hugo, not so sure about Francis.

Whattodoabout · 25/11/2019 11:57

Not keen on either. Hugo does make me picture a Chelsea/Kensington snob and Francis is feeble.

CravingCheese · 25/11/2019 11:58

I prefer Otto (or Milo) to Hugo tbh. But Hugo is also nice...
And Francis is great! It's a lovely name.

ooooohbetty · 25/11/2019 12:00

Round here Hugo would be shortened to Hughie and Francis would be Frankie. Not so middle class now.

GlamGiraffe · 30/11/2019 02:48

Love hugo, not at all keen of Francis. But no, not uppity.
