What are your thoughts on the name Elsie?
Do you think it goes well with older sibling Noah?
Thanks Smile

Lovely name! Think it sounds perfect with Noah x

Shadow1234 · 20/11/2019 21:12

Love the name Elsie, and think it goes well with Noah

diddlediddle · 20/11/2019 21:13

It goes with Noah but it's just a bit wussy sounding... could it be short for something so she has a more solid name to fall back on as an adult if she likes?

Omashu · 20/11/2019 21:13

I really don’t like it but that’s besides the point. It’s popular isn’t it, so lots of people will be along to say they like it.

Thetimetravelerswife · 20/11/2019 21:16

Sorry I don’t like it.

But I would like it as a nickname for something more substantial...like Elizabeth.

Elsie feels too...cutesy and perhaps when she’s older she may prefer a more formal name to go to...

helpiamstressedbuthey · 20/11/2019 21:19

love the name Elsie but have heard quite a few lately and its climbing up the charts if that bothers you

eddiemairswife · 20/11/2019 21:20

It's an Edwardian kitchen maid's type of name.

NoSauce · 20/11/2019 21:52

Terrible, sorry.

Grandmi · 20/11/2019 22:13

Absolutely love the name Elsie.

Answerthequestion · 20/11/2019 22:18

I find it a bit wet and drippy maid name

MonsteraDeliciosa · 21/11/2019 00:11

I like it! Got a bit of retro cool about it.

DramaAlpaca · 21/11/2019 00:13

Too 'cutesy granny' for me.

diddlediddle · 21/11/2019 01:28

If it helps, its popularity has risen very steeply in recent years, up from number 823 to 22nd most popular girls name last year:

names.darkgreener.com/#elsie

On the one hand that means I wouldn't describe it as retro or cool but on the other it means lots of people like it and there will be plenty of girls growing into grown women with it as a name!

Mammabear111 · 21/11/2019 01:33

It's plane I don't like it my self

NewNameForMeNewNameForMe · 21/11/2019 01:36

In all honesty, I think its an awful name. Elise is way nicer. Can't stand how all these hideous granny names have come back into use. Better than crap made up names & chavvy stuff like Nevaeh though. Not my choice, so if you like it, who cares what randoms online think?

Astronica · 21/11/2019 03:42

I like it, and I like it very much for Noah's sister.

CrumpetyTea · 21/11/2019 04:09

I like it.
I do really like Elspeth as well though - you could Elsie as a NN?

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 21/11/2019 05:57

I'm sorry I hate it...but I did also have an AWFUL Aunt Elsie so my view may be slightly tarnished! Lissy is nice?

Whattodoabout · 21/11/2019 10:09

I like it but it does conjure up an image of a sweet old Aunt.

IVflytrap · 21/11/2019 11:10

It's OK and goes fine with Noah, but I slightly prefer some of the other Elizabeth diminutives over it. Eliza, Elise, Beth. Elsie was very popular where I am a few years ago. A lot of 4/5 year old Elsies running around. That may not bother you, though.

Funny how often on these boards people dismiss Elsie and other names like it because it "sounds like a servant's name", when a lot of you will have had female ancestors in service. There's nothing wrong or inferior about working class women, or the jobs they took to survive in the past.

CravingCheese · 22/11/2019 08:44

Great for an old lady or an adorable little girl... Not sure about the ages in-between.

But it is better than Elspeth, so there's that.

Timetobegood · 22/11/2019 08:46

I don’t like it at all. Not keen on any granny chic names eg Violet, Ivy, Mabel.
