DS is George

The only other boys name is Peter which everyone hates Grin

Girls names I like are Emily and Annabel

What do you think and can you suggest any others?

DS is George David

Others with middle names would likely be:

Peter John

Emily Anne

Annabel Mary

Think that might only be in your world @FizzyGreenWater Confused

Officerthosearenotmysuitcases · 20/11/2019 22:10

I love John and Mary but not the first names you want to use!

LolaSmiles · 20/11/2019 22:14

I like Peter, but not John.

If you like Peter you might like Henry, Thomas, Daniel

Emily is nice, so is Annabel but both are more wallflower names to me.

Anne is nice, so is Anna.

midsomermurderess · 20/11/2019 22:20

Emily goes well with George, both solid, rather staid names.

FizzyGreenWater · 20/11/2019 23:02

Well, just google 'peter slang' as I just did and there it is I'm afraid Confused

But as I said it's not a big thing, it puts me off but I wouldn't say it's a real reason not to use it. It's American I think, the first time I heard it was at uni and a group of American exchange girls found it hilarious that one of their housemates was called Peter. Which I thought was odd because it's not like nobody is called Peter in America!

But there you go. It is a not very often used and usually not really thought about slang for penis.

Whattodoabout · 21/11/2019 10:13

One of my Grandma’s brothers was Peter John. I’m not sure if Peter is making a comeback or not, I don’t have it down as a classic name that hasn’t aged such as Henry or Edward. It’s quite antiquated, makes me picture a middle aged man called Pete.

Annabel is too closely tied to the creepy doll now which is sad because it’s a lovely name. Emily is boring.

Enko · 21/11/2019 10:35

I like Peter not keen on your girls names Annabelle at a push

SausageSimon · 21/11/2019 20:23

The slang thing to do with Peter wouldn't phase me personally!

I find Edward, Henry and Harry a bit naff myself which is stupid because George is definitely in that gang! But I just find George a stronger name, the same with Peter I suppose

Annabel doesn't worry me in terms of the horror film! And would be called Annie day to day Smile
I'd just like Annabel so she has options to be called Anne/Annie, Belle/Bella for example

I feel like George, Peter and Emily sound like a great set of names! Still torn about Emily though cause while it is a bit boring I know someone very naturally beautiful, kind and tastefully artsy so it gives me that sort of association!

I love the names John and Peter! Classic, strong names are so unusual at the moment , so they really stand out...

IncrediblySadToo · 21/11/2019 20:38

Emily has just been a little over used, but it’s still a pretty name.

I like Annabelle

I don’t like Peter. I think it’s dated but not due a come back anytime soon.

I disliked all the
Fredrick -Freddie
Albert - Albie
Arthur-Arties

when they became trendy, but they’ve grown in me...I can’t see Peter doing the same as it’s not yet old enough.

Charles-Charlie
Nattgan -Nate
Edward - Eddie

...any if those working for you?

Elodie
Chloe
Elizabeth
Caitlin

?

SausageSimon · 21/11/2019 21:00

@IncrediblySadToo maybe I can start the Peter trend, I'm quite the trendsetter (I'm really not Grin)

I know this isn't the same but everyone said they didn't like my name idea when I got my dog, and now she's called it everyone says it suits her and is the perfect name for her!

So that it pushing me to keep on with it Grin

Not a fan of any of the old man names shortened I'm afraid! Freddie being the worst offender haha.

Now you've mentioned, the one I like there is Arthur but I wouldn't shorten it. It feels like another strong classic name to me!

Hi @SausageSimon

Like all your boy name ideas. I think you know Peter is the one. Peter the Great, Peter Pan, Peter from Narnia - loads of great associations. Peter John is ace.

Girls names - Emily and Annabel are both quite nice. Annabel is a bit 80s Sloane - prefer Anna (perfection). What about Rose?

SausageSimon · 21/11/2019 21:47

Hi @PrincessLouis I think so too, I don't think I could find another name now! I think of Peter Rabbit the most so too me it's a cute classic name! No old man associations to me

I do like Anna too but slightly prefer Annie I think if I was to go short

With Peter I have a niggling feeling that it's the right name, but I don't get that with my girls names so much

How do we feel about Mary? Blush

OP posts:
Staffori · 21/11/2019 22:38

I quite like Mary and met a baby Mary quite recently. I do like Annie though.

Not keen on Peter. George goes better with John, Paul or Ringo.

Just kidding.

Being a royal name I think George goes better with other royal names like William and Harry.

SausageSimon · 21/11/2019 23:40

Ringo it is, thanks @Staffori Grin

I went to school with a Mary and at the time as a teen I thought it was an awful old fashioned name and a Charles too actually. And now I like their names!

My great grandma was called Mary and although she died when I was a small baby my mum speaks so fondly of her and misses her still so deeply it has such a warm feel to it

FizzyGreenWater · 22/11/2019 11:26

I'd just like Annabel so she has options to be called Anne/Annie, Belle/Bella for example

Belle/Bella are now two a penny because of the massive, massive popularity of Isabella/Isabel etc.

So if you like Anna, nn Annie, definitely go for that. Anna is an absolutely beautiful classic, isn't overused and Annie is a lovely short form.

I like Arthur, hate the nns Art/Artie. But it's a good choice.

However if you love Peter go for it!

SausageSimon · 22/11/2019 11:35

Yeah I'm not a fan of Belle/Bella at all but she may prefer them when she's older is my thinking! Just another option Smile

Also, Annie is longer than Anna Grin but I get what you're saying!

Anymore opinions on Mary?

OP posts:
daisypond · 22/11/2019 15:47

Peter is great. I love John too. Mary is super. I also like lots of derived forms like Marianne and Marian.

2000partyoveroops · 22/11/2019 16:29

Absolutely love Mary.

Lllot5 · 22/11/2019 16:35

I love Mary. Classic underused perfect.
Peter is due a comeback. I’m so out of the loop didn’t know it had gone away tbh.
Peter Mary George. Lovely sounds like they’re going on an adventure.

Leopardprintboots · 22/11/2019 16:45

Absolutely love Peter @SausageSimon

For girls I think Annabelle and Emily are great. Not so keen on Mary. Just brings up Virgin Mary and saintly connotations that I really don’t like and make me feel uneasy about it being my daughters name
