Currently love this name. Considering it for baby number 2 if it's a girl.

However - is it rapidly gaining in popularity?

What do you reckon?

It's lovely I haven't heard of any baby adas where I am.

Thetimetravelerswife · 18/11/2019 13:38

I think it is gaining in popularity, but won’t reach “Isla” standards.

I see it similar to Nora...

That’s the vibe it gives me.

I think it will increase in popularity but then fall out of favour. But that’s just my view

FrothyB · 18/11/2019 13:41

We called our daughter Adelaide, with the intention of using Ada as the shortened form. I don't know if Ada specifically is gaining popularity, but I'm sure it has a long way to go before it reaches the heights of Olivia, Amelia etc.

Some of the midwives/HCAs on the ward said she was the first Adelaide they had encountered.

We didn't just call her Ada as a preference thing, as we aren't massive fans of shortened names as given names, but everyone likes different things in that regard.

It’s a gorgeous name. It’s number 65 in the charts so I guess it’s fairly popular but that’s for a reason! It’s a fab name

What is your first child’s name? Is that a top 100 name and does it’s popularity bother you?

MikeUniformMike · 18/11/2019 17:29

It's a programming language. How about C# or Python instead?
Ada makes me think of First Aider and I don't like it.

IVflytrap · 18/11/2019 19:26

I like it a lot and don't know of any in any age group. It makes me think of Ada Lovelace, who was the first computer programmer (and therefore who the programming language is named after).

NoSauce · 18/11/2019 19:27

No. Terrible name, frumpy and harsh.

VioletVerity · 18/11/2019 19:30

I love Ada it always reminds me of peaky blinders though!

bakedtattie23 · 18/11/2019 19:32

I know one, it's ok but makes me think of fabric (that's called Aida tbf but it sounds the same).

Adelaide I love though! Or Adele?

Tillygetsit · 18/11/2019 20:45

I love Ada. Less popular than other short names like Ivy and Ava.

NannyR · 18/11/2019 20:51

I really like it, I don't think it will ever be as popular as Ava as it has more of an old lady vibe which you either love or loathe. I know of a little Ida too which is similar.

WhatsInAName19 · 18/11/2019 20:51

Ada is a beautiful name and one that’s been on my shortlist since forever. But I am a bit put off using it now as it’s getting very popular (where we are at least) presumably due to the Peaky Blinders connection. My own name was a very popular one for my birth year and I hated always being one of 2,3,4+ girls with the same name in almost every class and group I was ever in (and now one of several women with the same name in every office, every friendship group, every parents group etc). I’d love an unusual name. Something that feels a bit more unique.

InTheWalls · 18/11/2019 20:52

I think it's lovely. I only know one and she's one. None in the DC's primary school.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 18/11/2019 20:56

Wasn't that a Les Dawson character - Ada & Cissy?

DramaAlpaca · 18/11/2019 21:26

It's OK. It's one of the nicer 'granny chic' names.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 19/11/2019 05:38

Love it

EleanorShellstrop100 · 19/11/2019 05:38

Also love Adeline

Astronica · 19/11/2019 05:58

I like Ada.

fblake · 19/11/2019 06:08

I like it Smile

exLtEveDallas · 19/11/2019 06:14

If I had another child I would have used Ada. DH didn’t like it, but it was my Grans name and I loved it (Gran was born in 1896 and was actually Emmeline Ada which I think is an ace name!)

Weekday28 · 19/11/2019 06:20

I loved Ada when I was naming my children but husband didn't. My other name similar I loved was Ida.

macbooknotpro · 19/11/2019 07:37

Wow thanks for all the replies, name enthusiasts!

My first is also apparently named after one of the Peaky Blinders characters too - Arthur. I've never actually watched it so that didn't influence his name and hasn't influenced this name although I may well look like a PB "fan girl"! That said, those two names do go well together imo..

I prefer Polly Wink

runoutofideasnow · 19/11/2019 08:48

I know a 3yo Ada - I think it's cute.

Smellybluecheese · 19/11/2019 08:52

There are 3 colleagues with baby or toddler Ada’s in my office (London) so it’s fairly popular where I am. We’re not computer programmers :) I have a friend with an Adelaide known as Ada as well.
