From a personalised hat gallery on a FB selling page...

Somebody called their kid this? Really?
OP posts:

Havaina · 17/11/2019 22:53

It's an actual name, OP.

Do you also get surprised at names like Massimo (Dutti) and Hugo (Boss) etc?

dontalltalkatonce · 17/11/2019 22:55

The weirdos on last weeks 'Ben Fogle: New Lives in the Wild' named their son Karkadian. I think they both smoke a lot of dope.

dontlickthelamp · 17/11/2019 22:56

Nothing wrong with it, but my DC have unusual names

mrssoap · 17/11/2019 23:01

It's ok, I am a lover of traditional names so wouldn't be my choice of name. I've heard worse. I know someone who's child is called river Dee 🤷‍♀️ each to their own!

Ah yes, Boden. He has a sister called Asda and a brother called River Island.

TheColonelAdoresPuffins · 17/11/2019 23:03

There's an American actress with a baby girl called Banks, which I thought was unusual!

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/11/2019 23:04

River Dee do they live in Chester ?

Bluerussian · 17/11/2019 23:07

Boden is legitimately a boy's name. I neither like nor dislike it but on the whole I prefer more 'ordinary', timeless names which won't embarrass children when they are grown up.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/11/2019 23:12

There used to be an Aladdin's cave-style 'curio' emporium where I lived as a child called Boden's (after the owner's surname). It's such a middle-class marker on MN, but the name always instantly makes me think of this shop selling old junk (granted, some of it very good - but still junk) rather than any smart clothes shop.

smoresmores · 17/11/2019 23:13

I think I like the variant a PP mentioned is popular in NZ - Beauden. Wouldn't make much sense for any of my potential offspring but I like the sound / spelling of it never the less. Especially when linked to a Celtic background or Swedish town and not the wanky shop.

Riddikulusness · 17/11/2019 23:16

I know a Cash, a Diesel, two Summers who weren’t born in summer and likewise an Autumn, an Image and last but not least...
I know of a now adult woman out there somewhere who the idiotic registrar agreed to allow the poor (then) baby to be named Chlamydia
Not a wind up I swear!

CornedBeef451 · 17/11/2019 23:17

There's a real Khaleesi in the Midlands.

DangerClose · 17/11/2019 23:19

Is there a reason you thought it was so bad it deserved its own thread, OP? I mean, it's unusual, but it doesn't seem particularly outrageous to me...?

RightOnTheEdge · 17/11/2019 23:25

There is a Khaleesi in my dcs school CornedBeef caused a little bit of excitement among the GOT watching staff Grin
Also an Arya in the year below, well that's, how it's pronounced but I'm not sure how they spell it.

Anyway if I didn't think about the shop I'd quite like Boden as a name.

Bananajuice · 17/11/2019 23:26

My oh has a niece called khaleesi aswell...I'm guessing there's a few of them thanks to GoT

pigeononthegate · 17/11/2019 23:28

I taught a little Anakin.

Amazing how quickly you just get used to it.

IsabelleSE19 · 17/11/2019 23:31

I think the parents of the Khaleesis maybe should have waited until the end of the final season before saddling their DDs with that...

choirmumoftwo · 17/11/2019 23:36

I know of a Maximus (doesn't get shortened to Max) and all I can see is Russell Crowe in Gladiator giving his "My name is.........." speech!

weirdsmell · 17/11/2019 23:39

Plum Sykes? she must be in her 50s now?

And her name is Victoria

Itsjustafly · 17/11/2019 23:40

One of my former classmates has a daughter called Boden. Always thought it was a bit odd.

StrangeLookingParasite · 17/11/2019 23:42

I met someone once with a little Chanel and Armani (yes, really) so it could be worse.

Aaarmaaaahrni and Shannel.

Rob Morrow (the actor) called his daughter Tu.
Someone else's is Pilot Inspektor.
Some Australians called their child Rocket Zot.

Slappadabass · 17/11/2019 23:46

I've heard much worse. Someone local to me has a Jack Daniel and a Tia Maria. No joke, she was in the paper slating people for complaining about the cost of school uniform, she got ripped to shreds for her name choices! Grin

turnthebiglightoff · 17/11/2019 23:52

I know a Han Solo (both first name). She's in her 30's and is not grateful to her parents for the name.

chocolatefudgecake17 · 17/11/2019 23:52

@Zolaaaaa I need to know your niece's name. Pretty please?!
