Nicknames for Serena?

We've found out we're having a girl early next year and I've always loved the name Serena - it's a very empowered but traditional name.

Only problem is that I can't think of any way to shorten it...

Would love to know if anyone knows any Serenas and what they go by!

Where I'm from it would be Sair (as in hair)

Serena is lovely. Not keen on the nicknames though, they remind me of Rennies and Senna. I'd go with an unrelated nickname or just use the full name.

I’m guessing the OP just wants to know what others may shorten it too 🤷🏼‍♀️

milkysmum · 13/11/2019 07:09

I would imagine people might shorten to 'Ren'

Pippilangstrumpfi · 13/11/2019 07:24

Ren , Rennie, Reenie all sound like an indigestion medicine. Awful.

Serena is lovely.

Yeahnahyeah1 · 13/11/2019 07:27

Why would you shorten it? It’s not an easily shorten-able name to be honest, I’ve never heard it shortened.

Serena is lovely, Rena is awful, I wouldn't intentionally shorten it, a 'pet' name or nickname may evolve naturally.

FizzyGreenWater · 13/11/2019 11:50

Yes Serena is a really tricky one for NN. I really dislike Rena and Ser. Not at all the same feel. And people DO shorten names! - that's why OP is asking. You can't control it and it amost always happens, so yes if I were thinking through a name, what other people are likely to end up calling her whether I like it or not would be a huge consideration.

I have to say the nn thing would put me off Serena a bit - but that's possibly because I don't love Serena, although it's nice.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 13/11/2019 12:11

I honestly wouldn't expect Serena to be shortened. It's a beautiful and very easy to say name!

I know one teenage Serena and she has always been Serena.

CheerfulBunny · 13/11/2019 12:18

It always makes me think of gorgeous Blake Lively as Serena Van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl (v old reference). She and Blair would refer to each other as 'S' and 'B' (Ess and Bee). It's a really beautiful name - timeless.

Clangus00 · 13/11/2019 12:24

Why do you need to shorten it?

MollyHuaCha · 13/11/2019 12:38

Lovely name.

My diminutive would be Seesee
