MrsNoMopp · 10/11/2019 20:18

Bridget -OK
Claudia - very nice, pretty but bold
Eliza - harsh
Juliette - quite like
Josephine - like, a classic
Hazel - not keen
Matilda - way overdone now
Imogen - OK
Heidi - not keen
Eleanor - lovely name, timeless classic. Not keen on Ellie as nickname but like Nell

mylaptopismylapdog · 11/11/2019 02:57

Glad you like it Jonathan Vaness.

NoSauce · 11/11/2019 07:24

Claudia is my favourite. Eleanor and Juliet are lovely too.

diddlediddle · 11/11/2019 07:27

Josephine is my standout favourite from your list. Feminine, classic and underused.

LarkDescending · 11/11/2019 13:35

Juliette is lovely (also Juliet, Julia) but I really don't like Jules.

My favourite from your list is Eliza.

Astronica · 13/11/2019 08:50

Several of my favourite names are on your list. I love:

Bridget - strong, feminine, quite traditional, lovely nicknames, great meaning (strong), not over-used
Claudia - distinctive, strong, feminine, love nn Claudie, not over-used
Eliza - strong, feminine, traditional, quite popular but wouldn't stop me if it was the favourite
Imogen - love the sounds, love the Shakespearean connection, strong and femine, popular at the moment though
Eleanor - such strong links with history, love nns including Nell, beautiful, though fairly popular

I also like:
Matilda - strong, feminine, traditional, great historical links, lovely nns, quite popular though
Juliet - only like this spelling though - more streamlined and less fussy, feels smarter.

Josephine is okay. I'm not keen on Hazel which feels rather harsh to me and quite trendy. I dislike Heidi and it feels the odd one out being like a little girl nickname in comparison with the rest of your list of grown-up and traditional names.

Don't like Bridget, find it a very ugly name. Not keen on Claudia, Hazel or Heidi but the rest are lovely. Probably Matilda and Eleanor favourites.

MarshaBradyo · 13/11/2019 08:57

I really like Heidi and also Imogen is good

MerryMarigold · 13/11/2019 09:01

My name is Eleanor and never abbreviated. I also know a 12yo who is likewise never abbreviated.

I like Claudia and Eleanor, or Juliet. I think they are quite strong names but Juliette just looks like you're a bit prissy or pretentious unless you're French.

Jet as a NN for Juliet/Juliette

NoSauce · 13/11/2019 09:10

Jet as a NN for Juliet/Juliette

Jet? It would sound like you couldn’t pronounce Juliet.

Thetimetravelerswife · 13/11/2019 09:25

Bridget- ok
Claudia - I love, I think my favourite
Eliza- like
Juliette- cute but I prefer Juliet spelling
Josephine - also like
Hazel - not too keen
Matilda- like
Imogen - not keen
Heidi - dislike
Eleanor- ok

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/11/2019 09:28

Bridget - love it. It sounds classy and sophisticated on a grown women, and strong and fiesty on a toddler. Well known name but not overly used

Claudia - not a fan

Eliza - nice

Juliette - not a fan and prefer the simplicity of Juliet

Josephine - lovely name, I really like Joey as a nn

Hazel - lovely though seems to be on the rise

Matilda - nice but they are everywhere! I think it sounds nicer in the mn spot, a bit of an unexpected mn

Imogen - it's nice enough

Heidi - I like it on a child. But I'm not sure I'd want to be called it as an adult

Eleanor - lovely but Ellie's are every whet. I prefer Eleanore

bridgetreilly · 13/11/2019 11:25

Jet? It would sound like you couldn’t pronounce Juliet

It would sound like your daughter was a Gladiator...

FizzyGreenWater · 13/11/2019 11:47

I would think if you chose to name your DD Juliette, 'Jet' would be pretty bloody far from the kind of nn you would like her to be known as!

CakeRattleandRoll · 13/11/2019 13:20

Nice list! My favourites are Juliette, Josephine, Bridget and Hazel.

Chlosavxox · 13/11/2019 15:57

Heidi and Matilda are lovely - not keen on the others

MikeUniformMike · 13/11/2019 16:02

Claudine is nice

Lobsterquadrille2 · 13/11/2019 16:05

Love Imogen and Eliza.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/11/2019 16:35

I love Bridget.

cheesydoesit · 13/11/2019 16:38

I think they're all great choices. Sorry, that's no help.

Spied · 13/11/2019 16:48

Love Imogen, Heidi and Eliza.
I think I'd choose Heidi.

MummytoMatildaX · 13/11/2019 23:13

You have some beautiful names on your list, we have quite similar taste. My daughters name is Matilda, a lot of people here say it is really common, but where we are, I haven’t come across any little Matilda’s at any schools/nurseries/baby groups etc. I love the name Eliza and would choose this for a future DD, those are my favourite from your list.

Some suggestions..

Esme
Dulcie
Pippa
Lois
Mollie
Erica

Bridget: I think this is lovely and currently underused
Claudia: ok, classy
Eliza: Would only use as shortening for Elizabeth, as a stand-alone I’m not so keen
Juliette: prefer Juliet, and is a no from me
Josephine: no
Hazel: ok
Matilda: no
Imogen: lovely, classic, not too common
Heidi: love it!
Eleanor: a little dull
