Too out there for a boy?

I like it even though it has connotations both positive (lovely Warwick Davies) and negative (Richard III, Shakespeare etc).

I like it, I don’t think it’s that unusual, I worked with a Warwick a few years ago and most people have heard of Warwick Davis.

Proseccoinamug · 09/11/2019 09:37

I quite like it. As long as your surname isn’t Castle.

hungryhippie · 09/11/2019 09:42

Not to my taste but it's inoffensive and not overly 'out there'.

NearlyGranny · 09/11/2019 09:47

Noble name. Reasonably common in Oz. Everyone in the UK will comfortably spell and pronounce it correctly.

It will baffle them in the US if he goes, but lots of things baffle them.

Go for it. It beats Hector and Hezekiah!

HandInGove · 09/11/2019 09:48

The actor Warwick Davis has been in so many great films that your DC might watch in future and seems like a lovely guy IRL so I am sure they would be chuffed to share a name! He’s set up a brilliant charity with his wife and others by the way: littlepeopleuk.org/about-us

TwiddleMuff · 09/11/2019 09:50

I like it a lot - it’s a strong, solid name and unusual without being totally out there.

userabcname · 09/11/2019 09:57

I like it. Incidentally, I'm a teacher and have never experienced an instance of someone being bullied for their name. Genuinely don't think it's a thing now that there's such a range of names that parents choose from. Also don't see how much fun could be made of Warwick to be quite honest.

InfiniteGerbils · 09/11/2019 09:58

Interesting to hear a teachers point of view there thank you.

Plus if he wants to have a nickname then it can be “Ricky”.

Which I hate personally but I’m braced for the future at all times.

I like it.

Peachbubble · 09/11/2019 10:23

Well, Stirling Moss, Windsor Davies and Dudley Moore all seem to have done fine with a place name as a first name, so I say go for it!

cathpinc · 09/11/2019 11:35

I really like it - I knew a nice Warwick at school. It's unusual without being yoo-nique.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 09/11/2019 11:39

I really like it. It's a very strong name. Loads of places are perfectly acceptable - plenty mentioned above but Sydney, Adelaide, Paris, Georgia etc.

MikeUniformMike · 09/11/2019 12:40

Was going to ask if your surname is Castle.
i've not heard of King Warwick.
Hector is better.

MrsFoxPlus4Again · 09/11/2019 12:51

I know a family and this is their surname. It’s most definitely a name.

Stollen23 · 09/11/2019 12:56

Hector is better.

Perhaps not if you're aware of the meaning of 'to hector'

FizzyGreenWater · 09/11/2019 13:43

it does remind me of golfers wearing plus fours in the 1930s

And Warwick doesn't?!?!?!

Sorry OP it's awful - sounds kind of boorish and bossy.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 10/11/2019 13:25

@Frith2013

“Services” Grin

MeganChips · 10/11/2019 13:32

I quite like it, it’s distinguished but not too out there.

I used to work with one who was a really nice guy.

VenusClapTrap · 11/11/2019 17:03

I rather like it. And I don’t normally go for surname or place name type names

Lonelycrab · 11/11/2019 17:11

My brother is called Warwick. Never had any piss taking as far as I know. He was born in Australia that may be why. As to it being weird- well I grew up with one so it never seemed that strange Grin

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/11/2019 17:15

I teach a Warwick. He's a cheeky, lovely boy. I also went to school with one who was very similar - so I like it.

As the previous teacher said I have never known anyone these days bullied for first their name

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/11/2019 17:16

*their first name

MrsNoMopp · 11/11/2019 18:36

I like it. It's quirky with a historic vibe.

MrsBertBibby · 11/11/2019 18:37

I am surprising myself by liking it.

Unlike Hector, which is dreadful.

InfiniteGerbils · 12/11/2019 07:53

It’ll go well with his sister “Fleet” @Frith2013
