Thinking of names for our second child, inspired by some recent digging through an incredibly interesting family tree. These names kept popping up. What are your thoughts?

Aletta
Annie
Isabella
Harriet
Elizabeth

Charles
Josiah

Isabella (and similar names such as 'Bella' as a stand alone name and 'Isobel') have been incredibly popular over last 5 years - I'd avoid that one for that reason.

Not heard of Aletta, an not keen
Annie and Harriet are okay - not really my taste but nothing about them for me to dislike.
I really like Elizabeth

Charles is a good, solid, well known but not overused name and gives you the 'little boy' option of Charlie and the 'grown up' version of Charles, so I like that.

I rather like Josiah too - obviously wouldn't work if you'd object to him being called Joe, but I really like it Smile

My name is Annie and I love it. My favourite boys name is charlie/charles. Elizabeth is very classic too and you could use the name lizzie, liesel, lily, bess, eliza or beth

I like Harriet and Annie best for the girls and Josiah for a boy.

Aletta looks pretty but would always sound like 'a letter' so might be hard to wear. Harriet and Annie are my favourites of the girls. Not keen on Josiah but Charles is okay.

Aletta - strong dislike
Annie - Love Anna, like Anne, hate Annie
Isabella - gorgeous
Harriet - lovely and strong
Elizabeth - one of my all time faves

Charles
Josiah

Like Charles
Love Josiah

I really like them all, especially Aletta! Lettie is a pretty nn.

MrsNoMopp · 08/11/2019 09:13

Josiah is great, a nice twist on the more popular J names. Isabella and Annie are nice for a girl.

PsychosonicCindy · 08/11/2019 09:18

Love Annie,
Love Harriet (My guinea pigs name haha)
Isabella and Elizabeth fine, ok, inoffensive!
Love Charles/Charlie

PsychosonicCindy · 08/11/2019 09:19

Family tree searches are cool btw. One of my distant relations had Christmas as a first name!

Springb0ks · 08/11/2019 17:10

Thanks all. I can't decide whether I love or hate the name Charles, I do quite like Charlie as a nickname though.

And love Eliza as a shortened version of Elizabeth.

This has been so interesting to go back and see some family names reoccurring throughout history.

They’re ok, apart from Aletta. Sounds like something the postman delivers!

A weird thing happened to us. We called our son Charlie William because we loved the names. His birthday is the 28th Sept.

I had never really asked my grandma about her parents or seen a family tree, but when DS was born she told me that her dad was called Charlie William and was born on the 28th Sept.

I love family tree names. My GGma was called Rosa which would have been our girls name.

Of yours I love Elizabeth.

Springb0ks · 08/11/2019 19:44

@Peachypips78 that is such a spooky coincidence! Charlie William is a lovely name.

Aletta - yes for being unusual
Annie - yes, cute
Isabella - lovely but no because of popularity
Harriet - nice but no
Elizabeth - yes, because I have always liked it.

Charles - love Charlie
Josiah - nice but would need to be Joe or Joss as a nn

I think I would definitely use Aletta as a first or middle name.

Peachypips78 · 09/11/2019 13:20

Btw I really like Aletta and its very unusual. Aletta Elizabeth?
