Elliot or Elliott

Hey,

We have decided on this for our boy due in Jan.

However, undecided on the spelling either Elliot or Elliott both seem to be accepted spellings and both names in the top 100.

We even went to the seaside to see which spelling was on the personalised gifts and they had both in equal numbers......

We do prefer the 2 x t's to balance the 2 x l's.

My main worry is that we are setting him up for a life of constantly correcting people and I don't want that for him but we do love the name..

Elliot looks better to me.

Can also spell it Eliot if you fancy it [shrug] it's one of those names you're going to have to spell out to every new person you meet

Clangus00 · 30/10/2019 12:08

I think Elliott looks better.

Ooh that’s a tricky one. Whichever you choose you will have to spell it every time (my son has a name with more than one correct spelling and that’s what he has to do eg hello my name is Graeme Smith - that’s Graeme spelt G-R-A-E-M-E Smith ). I would probably spell your Elliott with 2 t’s on balance.

I prefer Elliott but I think either are lovely and my top choice if I was having a girl - I’m no help!!

HelpImStressed · 30/10/2019 13:21

A boy sorry, not a girlGrin

Elliot

Elliot.

millymae · 30/10/2019 17:21

Definitely just the one t at the end.
The spelling with 2 is more usually a surname.

BeanBag7 · 30/10/2019 17:31

Either way he will have to spell it out or say "Elliott with 1/2 Ts" because both spellings are pretty common. It doesnt really matter which you use.

AndysFavouriteToy · 30/10/2019 17:33

2 t's looks better, more even looking against the 2 L's. Elliot looks unfinished!

coffeecow · 30/10/2019 17:38

DH is an Elliot. It's often misspelt as Elliott but I think the two TTs is more of a surname spelling in my experience.

FreckleGirl · 30/10/2019 18:00

Elliott. "Two L's, Two T's"
