Do you have any names that you love but never see mentioned on MN?

I have a Dottie! Middle name Jean which I love (nearly hyphenated it!) Grin

Truedevon · 31/10/2019 10:34

Daithi for a boy pronounced Dah hee
Francesca for a girl

PetraRabbit · 31/10/2019 10:45

Melanie and Claire

Boireannachlaidir · 31/10/2019 12:40

Dulcie is mentioned frequently on here.

MissHenty · 31/10/2019 13:37

@mildlymiffed yes RoWan is mentioned in almost every name thread on here. It’s pretty common now but not as common as the ubiquitous RoMan. Those 2 names have exploded in popularity the past 2 years. A few years ago they’d have been lovely names to use though. As they’ve come from nowhere and will be top 20 soon I think they will date and suddenly disappear and be this generation’s Keith or Darren

I agree the name Cole doesn’t get mentioned much on here and it’s a really nice name.

Agree Michael and Daniel don’t get mentioned much on here

Also names like Carol or Sally don’t get mentioned

Relatively popular names like Chloe also don’t seem to get mentioned much on MN for some reason

mildlymiffed · 31/10/2019 14:29

@MissHenty how funny! I'm back on MN after almost 3 years away! Its obviously become a trendy name in that time...!

MissHenty · 31/10/2019 14:36

@mildlymiffed welcome back ☺️
Yes has become a trendy name I would say, along with the likes of Arlo, Ezra, Grayson, they’ve all got very popular last few years. Wonder what the next lot of names to appear from nowhere will be x

DonEmmanuelsDingleberries · 31/10/2019 17:17

I almost never see the following suggested: Ramona, Megan, Meredith, Hester, Faith, Solana, Leopold, Gregory, Otis, Quentin, Solomon, Magnus, Damian, Griffin, Emrys

@BigGlasses - I know a 3 year old Lorna. She's ace.

GingerBeverage · 31/10/2019 23:10

Not sure if they're mentioned on here or not but I've always liked Ursula and Magnolia.

Krazynights34 · 31/10/2019 23:16

Nel
Lyra (not often mentioned)
Joy

mathanxiety · 01/11/2019 00:17

I love Lennox too.
Also Bernadette. And Michael!
Love Rita, Wilhelmina, and Sally too.

Dinah and Beulah never get a mention.

PompeyBez · 01/11/2019 08:07

Ceres. I knew an older lady with the name years ago and always thought it was beautiful

RowenaMud · 01/11/2019 13:12

Wasn’t Michael votes the worst name ever on some site. Of course any name can be voted in any direction to be fair but I think many of the same ones appear over and over again. I think the full name Michael is far far far better than any of its nicknames - Mick, Mikey and Mike.

I associate Nicole with Falcon Crest. It’s the associations I suppose that date a name.

I love the name Hope but I read it’s associated with stillborn babies so understand why it isn’t popular although I think it’s a much nicer name than Nevaeh which is still used.

Laurent is commonly used, just not in the UK.

I like the name Lilian but sadly it has been overtaken by Lily used as a full name.

I like Samantha too. I wouldn’t use it and find it dated but there is something I really like about it.!

MikeUniformMike · 01/11/2019 13:59

Lyra is mentioned often.
Conrad occasionally
Dorcas very occasionally
Dulcie is mentioned fairly often
Meredith is mentioned quite often
Chloe hardly gets mentioned even though it is very popular IRL.

MikeUniformMike · 01/11/2019 14:02

I don't love any of those names. I liked Chloe a lot until everyone seemed to have one. Dorcas is nice. Conrad is ok.
Dulcie makes me think of seaweed and Meredith seems ugly. Lyra is too Philip Pullman.

Dljlr · 01/11/2019 14:05

I don't love them, but I notice that no one ever wants to call their daughters Joanne or Sally anymore. I adore Astrid, I'd love to have been an Astrid. Had I been I would definitely be long legged, blonde and deeply intellectual, rather than a shirt, rotund TOWIE fan.

MikeUniformMike · 01/11/2019 16:11

Joanne and Sally are fine but the trend is for vowel heavy names and frilly names. Lots of the names have a v in them.

msmith501 · 01/11/2019 16:21

Ursula - I'm having to bear with the fact I never see it...

MikeUniformMike · 01/11/2019 17:49

How can you bear it *msmith501). Arthur any other names you like?

Cbeebiesrehab · 01/11/2019 19:37

I have suddenly developed a love for the Safiyah nn Saffy. Not one I’ve seen mentioned here much? It might not be MN approvedGrin
