Change of name

My baby is 3 weeks old and I'm worried that I've picked the wrong name.

I don't want to say what the name is as I don't want to read any comments that could make me feel worse.
Would anyone consider changing their baby's name? Birth has already been registered.

I don’t think you can just change the birth certificate unless there was a mistake www.gov.uk/correct-birth-registration

You can change by deed poll but that will give her a lifelong extra admin task.

You loved the name, I bet it is becoming more popular here as a girls name ( if it is Aubrey).

You can call her by any name you like. My DH’s name that he is known by to everyone except very official things, is not his birth certificate name.

@BlouseAndSkirt you can change the original birth certificate until up to a year old. There is a box at the bottom of the certificate for it.

FWIW I think girls tend to carry off more 'masculine names' without any issues, compared with the opposite... (yes, I know society is ridiculous)

I also thought of Sasha.

It really doesn't matter what we think because if you are unhappy with your choice it's definitely not too late to change it.

I'm having the same thoughts about my sons name. It's not widely common and I thought it was strictly a boys name. However I've since found out that it's a girls name in the USA and that it's infrequently used as a girls name here too.

I'm having the same doubts about condemning him to a lifetime of ridicule. I love the name but I'm gutted.

Jossina · 30/10/2019 22:13

Wattagoose90 the name could help teach your child and others not to be so obsessed with sexist "standards" and stop people from assuming stupid things.

Aubrey & Sasha are both girl names to me ?

Lavenderblues · 31/10/2019 16:49

On the Continent Sascha (German spelling) and Sacha (French spelling) are mainly used for boys. It's traditionally short for Alexander.

What would you change it to?

Saltnpepperr · 02/11/2019 20:49

I know what you mean, I was the same and debated whether to change for months. Didn’t in the end. Hard to give an opinion without knowing the names. Thought of names like Sasha and Remy. Love both and had both on my girls list (both mainly boys names)
