Is Ramsey a usable boy name in UK?

Quite like the sound of it, but is it too surname-y? Does Ramsay Bolton in GoT ruin this name?

It's unusual but not WTF unusual.

It's a bit horrible, sorry. But then I can't bear surname names. They always sound so cheap to my ear.

But they're traditional in Scotland and N Ireland (not sure about the rest of Ireland) . I can understand you not wanting to name your own child in this way, that's perfectly reasonable, but it's a bit rude to dismiss an entire country's tradition as 'cheap'.

And actually you're right, if I knew the person was Scottish I would have a different opinion. Sorry if I missed that the OP is Scottish.

I’ve heard it before and have no problem with it, but I feel a lot of people will point out either Gordon Ramsey or Ramsey Street (or both!)

I used to know a baby Ramsey, he was lovely and it really suited him.

I like it but being Scottish it doesn't seem at all unusual to me.

My maiden name was Ramsay. It's definitely more of a surname. And furthermore, PLEASE don't do it, you are condemning him to a lifetime of 'now is that Ramsey with an EY or an AY, like the street or the chef?

A good Scottish name. Go for it.
