Is Archie a real no no now?

It’s been on our shortlist for a while, before I was pregnant, but now everyone seems to associate it with Meghan and Harry... so I’m wondering if it’s now a bit of a no no.

Do you like the name Archie? Would the royals choice put you off it?

I know it’s up to us at the end of the day, I’m just interested in gauging opinion, be they brutal or not!

Definitely not a no-no. If Archie’s name was a totally obscure name instead then I’d probably say yeh it’s unusable but Archie is still a lovely name to use. As are Louis, Charlotte and George

DramaAlpaca · 17/10/2019 22:49

Do I like it? No, not at all. If I liked it I wouldn't be put off by the royals using it, but it's much too cutesy for my taste.

which1 · 17/10/2019 22:49

I don't like it personally.
But if I did the Royal connection would not deter me from using it.
But I would recognise that people would assume that my choice of the name had something to do with Harry/Meghan having chosen it.

Lavenderblues · 17/10/2019 23:01

I really dislike Archie. It's cutesy as well as ugly sounding (the arch part). But the fact that Meghan chose it wouldn't bother me personally.

Lavenderblues · 17/10/2019 23:03

And Archibald is even worse imo

NoSauce · 17/10/2019 23:10

Never liked it, so I wouldn’t use it.
But those who do should if they want to.

PandasMum · 17/10/2019 23:23

I think it’s awful - I’m not a royalist but they’ve probably made the name a bit nicer to me if anything

Krazynights34 · 17/10/2019 23:35

It’s very cute! Though that might be my view because waaaaay back Barbie had a horse called Archie...

wizzler · 17/10/2019 23:58

I love it. If you like it , go for it. There will probably be a celebrity somewhere with whatever name you choose, and honestly I predict H&M will move abroad and be much less in the spotlight in 5 years time

HalfManHalfLabrador · 18/10/2019 00:09

I don’t like it

SemperIdem · 18/10/2019 01:39

I’ve never liked it. However, if I did the Royal connection wouldn’t put me off.

Topseyt · 18/10/2019 01:53

I like it and would have considered it if we had had a boy.

Why should it be a no-no? Prince William and Prince Harry's names didn't become no-nos when they were born. Use it if you like it.

Astronica · 18/10/2019 02:05

I like it and wouldn't be put off.

SnowsInWater · 18/10/2019 02:47

I think it's a cute name and unless Kate is your bestie (my best friend wants to use the same baby name as me, AIBU) I certainly wouldn't let that put you off.

SnowsInWater · 18/10/2019 02:47

Sorry, that would be Meghan, not Kate, shows how up there with royal family news I am 🤣

MileyWiley · 18/10/2019 02:53

I never liked it. Around here Archie and Harrison are both considered extremely common and perhaps "chavvy" names over the last 3 or 4 years.

Ihateedmundelephant · 18/10/2019 06:04

I really don’t like it, I didn’t like it before Meghan and Harry used it and I like it slightly less now as they irritate me slightly.

Emthebaker · 18/10/2019 06:44

It was on our shortlist, but took it off after the royals used it.. I still love the name, but as we’re due this year I just thought it was too close to the royal baby and was worried people would think that was where we’d got the name from. I think people will associate Archie with the royals for a little while, but it won’t last forever, if we hadn’t had other names we loved as much and more I’d have probably still considered it. I think it just depends on how strongly you feel about the name!

Bellasblankexpression · 18/10/2019 09:14

@Emthebaker yes this is kind of what I feel like.
I’m not sure I love it enough to stick with it anyway but our shortlist is so ... well short! Grin

Haworthia · 18/10/2019 09:18

Why would it be? Is George now a no-no?

Clearly not, because I know about five million George’s aged 8 and under Grin

december20100 · 18/10/2019 12:35

No I don't believe so. If you like it still just go for it
