Calling my baby boy Romeo when my name is Juliette

Hi Mums,

I am expecting my 3rd son and I really want to call him Romeo (it came to me in a dream) and my name is Juliette. I really like the name but suddenly wondered if it was weird that I call him that considering the story of Romeo and Juliette and that I'm his mum....
I may be reading way too much into this but would be happy to read your opinions...
Thanks much : )

Oh honestly don’t. If I met a mother called Juliette who had called her son Romeo I’d seriously think you were weird. I’m sorry, I really would. You can’t be explaining to him when he’s 15 and doing gcse Romeo and Juliette why you thought it was a good idea!

SyrilSneer · 11/10/2019 12:06

The issue isn’t that we don’t know it’s a name, Shakespeare was English Hmm the issue is it’s a silly idea.

AverageMummy · 11/10/2019 13:08

Really terrible - although it’s a terrible name anyway
What about Rowan or Robin?

PrestonNotHeston · 11/10/2019 13:12

I had a dream last night that I sailed a boat up my parents' street and crashed into a pale blue Rover P5.

I don't feel obliged to make this happen in real life.

Naomimi · 11/10/2019 13:24

Definitely don’t do it!

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 11/10/2019 13:26

So your still going with it? 🙄

BastardGoDarkly · 11/10/2019 13:31

Yeah, do it! Sounds great Hmm

HotChocolateLover · 11/10/2019 15:04

How about Roman? I hated the name until my DH had a work mate called it and it kinda grew on me. Nice compromise.

PullingMySocksUp · 11/10/2019 15:08

It’s a name here too. That’s not an issue.
The story is well known, so it won’t just be when he’s reading it. People will laugh that his mother is his girlfriend and that it’s creepy. Please don’t saddle a child with that. It’s just asking for bullies to pick up on.

Boireannachlaidir · 11/10/2019 15:51

"Hi mums" is a great opener... Hmm

FatherFintanFay · 11/10/2019 15:54

Another one saying please don't do it. Romeo and Juliet are possibly the most famous fictional lovers there have ever been - you can't knowingly name yourself and your son after them. It will look beyond weird.

Frith2013 · 12/10/2019 23:14

In a dream, you say? I’m sure your nurse can advise...

Don’t fall in a deep sleep looking as though you’re dead anytime soon.

Ohyesiam · 12/10/2019 23:17

It wouldn’t be weird, it would be fucked up.

Frith2013 · 12/10/2019 23:18

You live in Paris? You think they haven’t seen the Leonardo di Caprio version dubbed into French? Or heard of the ballet version?

Dearie me.

Ohyesiam · 12/10/2019 23:18

Just realised that sounded really aggressive, which I didn’t mean. Sorry.
But I did want to convey a very strong
No, you really can’t do that.

Wolfiefan · 12/10/2019 23:20

Paris
Romeo
Juliet?
Got to be a joke? Surely. Confused

GrumpyHoonMain · 12/10/2019 23:21

I know a Romeo in France and the poor boy is bullied just for having that name. I imagine it would have become a whole lot worse if his mum or sister were called juliette.

RushianDisney · 12/10/2019 23:24

If you must use it, have it as a middle name. It's simply too odd with the connection with your name, and the city you live in...

Shalom23 · 12/10/2019 23:31

Do you realise that in the play Juliet was betrothed to Paris before she had underage sex and marriage to Romeo? Then Romeo killed Paris before the double suicide of him and Juliet. Now apply that to your future teenage son, yourself and home city. I dare not enquire about this baby's father's name.

Frith2013 · 12/10/2019 23:39

No doubt he’ll be a Monty...

Proseccoinamug · 12/10/2019 23:48

Yeah. If you’re serious, you really can’t.

DramaAlpaca · 12/10/2019 23:49

Of course it's a joke. Nice try, OP.

Tillygetsit · 12/10/2019 23:53

Dont be so daft.

LimpidPools · 12/10/2019 23:54

Oh yes, how he'd laugh when you explained to him at age 15 as he read the play. Like a drain Hmm

leomama81 · 12/10/2019 23:55

This may well be a wind up but in case it isn't - seriously, don't. The world famous love story aside, it's an awful, tacky name. The only men I have ever encountered called Romeo have been gigolos hitting up rich older foreign women for sex at beach resorts.
