Does it work for a boy or a girl? Not finding out the sex until the birth 😬😬😬

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ChloeDecker · 10/10/2019 18:46

I’ve taught three children in the past 5 years called Phoenix and all were boys but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a girls name!

NetflixAndWine · 10/10/2019 18:47

I know a baby boy called Phoenix. Tbh I get the impression that his mum regrets the name choice... she's never said so directly but they always use a nickname instead and she's said she's annoyed that people constantly mis-hear it as Felix

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 10/10/2019 18:47

Neither

I heard someone calling for their daughter in a shop once and it was Phoenix and honestly it sounded really pretentious

Can you imagine someone in the work place being called that name as a grown woman - even worse for a grown man

WaynettaSlobOnTheSchoolRun · 10/10/2019 18:52

I'm normally quite boring with names but I like it for boys and girls.

Morado · 10/10/2019 18:55

I absolutely love it for both! I know one of each ❤️

BertieBotts · 10/10/2019 18:59

I really like it and think it is gender neutral.

I would be especially tempted if you both have red hair in your families, but I do wonder if that is slightly cruel.

smeerf · 10/10/2019 19:01

I think you'll have a Phoebe EO or oe situation where people misspell it a lot, but that's true of a lot of names. I know one, he's a boy but no reason it couldn't be a girl's name.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 10/10/2019 19:02

Hmm. Never met one but was in a restaurant with a pair of parents loudly (and at length) discussing their amazingly talented kids - ‘Tiger Lily, Peregrine and Phoenix’. That would put me off the names alone.

Mightygerbil · 10/10/2019 19:14

I’ve taught both a boy and a girl Phoenix. I just struggle with the image of a 45+ year old of either sex with that name. Unless maybe they are in something seen as being a bit ‘cool’ like advertising, art, sport. I can’t get my head round the idea of say a standard looking middle aged plus admin worker called Phoenix somehow. Which I realise is entirely my issue.

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2019 01:00

I think it's seriously pretentious for either sex.

071019DD · 11/10/2019 03:47

I'd say I think of a boy rather girl.

ellarosee · 11/10/2019 08:33

I think it's a lovely name! Just because it's 'different' it doesn't make it pretentious

Spied · 11/10/2019 08:36

Awful.
Doesn't age well either.

AverageMummy · 11/10/2019 09:35

I prefer Parrot

MissHenty · 11/10/2019 09:36

I think it’s acool name
I like it x

Kanga83 · 11/10/2019 09:44

Isn't scary spices daughter Phoenix? Personally not a fan at all but no reason you couldn't name either sex it if that's what you love.

Kanga83 · 11/10/2019 09:46

Interesting pp think it's a pretentious name. I think it's the complete opposite.

samandpoppysmummy · 11/10/2019 09:46

I know a 17 year old girl and a one year old boy called Phoenix and it suits both of them :)

user1493494961 · 11/10/2019 22:13

I also think the opposite of pretentious, more 'C' word.

TigerDroveAgain · 11/10/2019 22:16

Love it. Just as long as you don’t spell it Pheonix: DS was at school with Pheonix pronounced Phoenix but I could only think her name was Fee O nicks

RickOShay · 11/10/2019 22:20

I like Phoenix, I know one who is a girl. I like the imagery of it.

Nonameyet1 · 12/10/2019 18:28

I think of it as a girls name more but don’t know any of either sex.

whattodo2019 · 12/10/2019 18:29

Hideous name! Sorry

Frith2013 · 12/10/2019 20:56

It’s our local fireplace shop so not for me.
