As a baby brother for sister Margot? Which name do you prefer?

Hamish is lovely. Gil is nice too but not Gilbert, it's a lot of name to be saddled with. Also I know a really creepy old man called Mr Gilbert which is obvs totally irrelevant to you but it really puts me off the name!

Hamish - beefy chap with a woolly jumper and boots. Probably a vet or tree surgeon.

Gilbert - skinny fella with a black polo-neck. Probably a jazz musician or architect.

Gil - the sexy fish in Finding Nemo.

I only like Hamish or Gil.

Hamish

Chillisauceboss · 07/10/2019 16:28

I knew a Gilbert and I thinks it's rare and he really suited it! He was a grown man when I met him - nicknames varied from G, Gil and Bert. I got Gilbert

NoSauce · 07/10/2019 16:35

I think Gilbert is pretty cool. I like Gil and Bert/ie as nn.

Hamish is ok if a bit boring and I know so many four legged ones!

mistermagpie · 07/10/2019 21:56

I am biased as I have a Hamish, but it's such a great name. He is Mishy for 'short'.

dementedma · 07/10/2019 22:01

Lots of Hamish's in middle class Scotland. Very popular.

mistermagpie · 07/10/2019 22:36

Definitely middle class Scotland here although Hamish wasn't even top 50 the year mine was born, so not that popular.

Wavyheaded · 08/10/2019 00:21

Neither! They conjure up images of old beardy blokes with red faces.

I like Gilbert. Gil is great for short too.

Used to know a dog called Hamish, he was Hames or Hamy for short.
