I think that people judge celebrity names, popular American names, surnames and oddly-spelled names. I'd avoid any of them if you're concerned.

BigusBumus · 04/10/2019 16:57

I think its one of those names that if you really are posh (by family blood line rather than money) then it becomes non-chav by virtue of the parents being posh. But when used by the nouveau-riche it becomes a bit chavvy.

But like, who cares really?

ConfusedAndStressed95 · 04/10/2019 17:04

No, its a cute name for boys or girls.

Gummibaerchen1 · 04/10/2019 17:30

Yes, it probably is, sorry

blaaake · 04/10/2019 17:42

Yes. (Ironic)

MissHenty · 04/10/2019 17:44

Yes exactly @BigusBumus who cares? Names are much more versatile these days. I know a Rupert on a council estate. If I hear someone say “Oscar” I wouldn’t assume posh. 10 years ago I probably would.

There’s someone called Rosi (spelt that way) on “made in ” at the moment. I’d used to have assumed that a posh parents would use the correct spellings but not anymore

123Dancewithme · 04/10/2019 17:50

Yes

MonnaLiza · 04/10/2019 17:51

How about William Blake? He was definitely not a chav, even if his spelling of Tiger was unusual.

Pearlyxdrop · 04/10/2019 17:56

I know a stereotypical chav and his name is Blake. I still don’t think the name is chavvy though !

nitgel · 04/10/2019 18:02

American isn't it blake carrington

user1493494961 · 04/10/2019 18:18

Yes, I know an adult Blake who was always a troublemaker and is now in prison.

Onekidnoclue · 04/10/2019 18:24

Sorry. Yes it is chavvy. If you like it use it though. Might not be chavvy when he or she is older or you can decide not to care Grin

BuildBuildings · 04/10/2019 18:36

I think surnames as first names are a bit try hard and this is seen as chavy or common.

percheron67 · 04/10/2019 18:40

Surname as a first name. Horrid.

Gummibaerchen1 · 04/10/2019 18:44

Surname

Cornettoninja · 04/10/2019 18:47

Is it? I love the name Blake and it would of been on my list for a boy if our surname didn’t start with a J

daisypond · 04/10/2019 19:53

Yes, unless you are American.

Winterlogs · 04/10/2019 21:05

So what does the term 'chav' mean Hmm

It's a horrible, derogatory term.

CherryPavlova · 04/10/2019 21:08

Ghastly name. Sounds like a character in a bad science fiction novel.

dementedma · 04/10/2019 21:09

My friend 's daughter has just called her baby son Baine. Horrible

64sNewName · 04/10/2019 21:10

It’s very “1980s American soap opera” to my ear.

Candace19 · 04/10/2019 21:10

Yes

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/10/2019 21:12

Just makes me think of Home & Away, sorry...

TheNumberOneSourceOfEverything · 04/10/2019 21:20

So what does the term 'chav' mean

It means Council Housed and Violent.

A lot of the time I see it used on here though it seems to just refer to someone working class or poor.

I judge people on their actions, not their names and even if someone did have a name that's popular on council estates I still wouldn't give a fuck because there's nothing wrong with living on a council estate.

Rachelover60 · 04/10/2019 21:26

I don't know any Blakes but remember Blake Carrington from Dynasty.
It hasn''t occurred to me that it's chavvy (some names are), does that mean he'll grow up in a household where people say, "would of", "should of" and "bored of"?
