Tristan, Lucien/Lucian, or Alistair?

Would welcome any thoughts on the above names, and if your preference is for Lucien/Lucian how are you pronouncing it? I prefer the English spelling Lucian but don't like the pronunciation LU-SHUN, however I'm not really keen on using spellings by other nationalities unless there is a connection, and unfortunately I have no link to the French whatsoever!

Thanks Smile

Really don’t like Tristan sorry
Lucian is lovely
Alistair is ok - my friend’s child goes by Ally

Treaclebee · 24/09/2019 19:09

Love Tristan (always reminds me of Cornwall) and Lucian.
I've known a couple of Tristans but yet to meet a Lucian, so maybe it's more unusual?
Not keen on Alistair. Just don't like the sound.

MissHenty · 24/09/2019 19:11

I LOVE Alistair
Can’t never understand why there aren’t more of them

Chips4dinneragain · 24/09/2019 19:46

Thanks all, a mixed response so far then! averagemummy how are you pronouncing lucian?

I love Alistair.

I don't like either of the others.

midsomermurderess · 24/09/2019 21:15

Alistair, I love Alistair.

Grufallosfriends · 24/09/2019 21:31

They're all lovely!

mintich · 24/09/2019 21:34

Lovd Alistair!!
For the pronunciation question I would say Lu-shun (only known one)

user1493494961 · 24/09/2019 21:45

I've known one Lucian pronounced Loose-ian.

Bucatini · 24/09/2019 21:47

Alistair is my favourite by miles

Abstractedobstructed · 24/09/2019 21:50

The Lucian I know is very much Loo-shan, his mum gets cross. I would have said Loo see Ann before, like Mr Freud.

Chips4dinneragain · 24/09/2019 21:54

Thanks everyone, seems like alistair is the favourite then. Tristan is my favourite but DH isn't that keen, his favourite is Lucian (LOO-SEE-EN pronunciation) but although I like it something is putting me off. We both like alistair but I'm not keen on Ali as a nn and don't know what else it could be abbreviated to?

Yes that's something that puts me off Lucian abstracted as I'm not keen on giving DS a name where the mispronunciation would drive me batshit, and I really don't like LOO-SHUN.

Chips4dinneragain · 24/09/2019 22:15

God just realised how much I use the word keen, maybe I should just call DS that and be done with it.

Alistair but I prefer the Alastair spelling

midsomermurderess · 24/09/2019 22:47

Alistair doesn't need to be contracted and most of the ones I know are rarely called anything else.

MrsBertBibby · 24/09/2019 22:56

1 Lucian ,(see-an)
2 Alastair (much nicer that way)
3 Tristan. Not keen. Grin

SomeLikeItTepid · 24/09/2019 23:05

Love Lucien (LOO-SEE-EN) but I understand how annoying it would be to continually correct other people's pronunciation. Alistair may well be the same though. Many people might pronounce it 'Allisturr' so really I think you should pick the name you both love.

Fifthtimelucky · 24/09/2019 23:06

My favourite is Tristan too, though I don't much like any of them. I never realised that some people pronounced Lucien as Loo Shan!

Probably biased here but Lucien. My DS is called Lucien Grin

HeartStrings · 24/09/2019 23:26

And pronounced LOO-SEE-UN

Astronica · 25/09/2019 03:14

Alistair is my favourite, Tristan 2nd. I'm not keen on Lucian - but prefer that spellin.

Inlovewitharagorn · 25/09/2019 08:43

I know one Lucian and they pronounce it LOO - see - un. He's 16.
I love it and had never heard of the other pronunciation.
I'm not keen on Tristan but love Alistair.

iismum · 25/09/2019 10:03

I love Alasdair - but much more when it's spelt properly!
