Thank you :)

Not for me. I'm not keen on Old Testament names on the whole.

user1493494961 · 22/09/2019 21:41

Not feminine at all, think it's a very strong name.

NoSauce · 22/09/2019 21:55

Great name.

BelfortGabbz · 22/09/2019 22:04

I find it a bit of a mouthful.

Grufallosfriends · 22/09/2019 22:29

Is it pronounced Ee lie ja or El ee ja?

june2007 · 22/09/2019 22:31

Love it but know at least 4 so not as uncommon as one first thinks.

Honeybee0 · 22/09/2019 22:39

I don't know any though it might be becoming more popular.
My husband loves the name Eli so it would work well as a nn

Other name I love is Elias

It's a lovely name and I don't see it as feminine at all. Its obviously a male name.

LolaSmiles · 22/09/2019 22:44

I love it. It's a nice name, has a good shortening too.

Nonnymum · 22/09/2019 22:44

Elias is also lovely.

Kanga83 · 22/09/2019 22:55

I prefer Elias, I know two others- one a man in his 60s and one is a two year old. It's a name that would suit a baby through to old man. Elijah I like, Elias just seems more polished.

Astronica · 23/09/2019 04:26

I'm not a fan of Elijah. And it's everywhere. I prefer Elias. In my country, Australia, both Elijah and Eli are in top 50 names, so a lot of Eli sounding names if you add them together. (Which would also put me off Elias). Not sure about UK but assume the're both popular there too.

Pcosmama · 23/09/2019 07:00

Elijah and Elias were both on my list, nn Eli. Whike I agree it has no hard consonant sounds, I personally don't think that makes it feminine at all, as names like Theo, Ollie, Reece etc are also "soft sounding" but not feminine names.

CallItLoneliness · 23/09/2019 07:09

I have a son with a variant on those names (from the place I'm from). I love them both, but prefer Elias.

VenusClapTrap · 23/09/2019 07:17

Too overtly religious for me.

nopenotplaying · 23/09/2019 07:28

I always check the meaning and see if I'm happy with that - Elijah means the lord is my god.

If you apply this theory to other names...Cameron for instance....Scottish for crooked nose!

Elijah is a lovely name x

Grufallosfriends · 23/09/2019 09:00

Maybe it's the soft sound (lack of hard consonants) combined with ending in an 'a' sound that it feels and sounds feminine to some?

Honeybee0 · 23/09/2019 11:32

Glad most responses are positive :)
Leaning towards Elias at the moment x

I know a very lovely 5 year old Elias. He is the only one in the school I think.

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 17:13

I love the name Elijah and think it’s very masculine

Eli is such a cool nn

123Dancewithme · 24/09/2019 00:06

I know one who goes by Lij instead of Eli.
