So DH and I both like Nina but I'd prefer it if it was a shortened version. Problem is I'm struggling to think of names that can be shortened to Nina. Not a fan of Georgia or Antonia. Anyone got any suggestions that we may not have thought of?

I agree with Mike about the pronunciation of Karenina, but then I have only ever come across it as Anna Karenina and not as a first name.

I know a natalina that is shortened to Nina

Nina on its own is lovely and totally fine with a short surname eg Nina Brown => fabulous Grin

Cocoismydog · 23/09/2019 19:13

I have never heard of Georgia being shortened to Nina?

Annina/Anina

Don’t think any are ‘beyond a stretch’ at all. These are far far more tenuous:
Henry - Harry
Mary - Molly
Edward - Ted
Margaret - Daisy
Dorothy - Polly
Jonathan - Jack
Christopher - Kit

Catherina/ catherine
Antonia

Justine

Just Nina is so lovely! My dd has a short first name and last name which i think is cute and funky.

I know a Josephine who is known as Nina.
Anything ending with with 'ine or 'ina' would do.

Nina is beautiful as it is. Nothing wrong with a short name, as long as you love it. Easy to spell, write, fit onto forms/labels. Your future teachers will thank you ;o)

Nina is nice, there is a lovely British journalist and presenter with that name.
