What do you think? Albie would be full name rather than Albert which I'm not so keen on

For some reason I find it quite hard to say.

What about Albus?

NorthEndGal · 14/09/2019 11:50

I'd end up saying Albion
Sorry

Oneforposy7 · 14/09/2019 11:51

I like it as a nickname but not a full name.

WeShouldOpenABar · 14/09/2019 11:52

Reminds me of Albie the racist dragon, but I like that

NoSauce · 14/09/2019 11:59

I quite like Albert but dislike Albie not as much as Alfie but pretty close.

PancakeAndKeith · 14/09/2019 12:01

My friend’s first baby was Albie. Sadly born sleeping so the name has a special place in my heart.

MissHenty · 14/09/2019 12:04

Albie is a gorgeous name on its own
Go for it x

Bobbiepin · 14/09/2019 12:04

As a teacher the only kids I've ever taught called Albie have been in their own class of shit. It's not a naughty kid name, it's an "excluded permanently by year 8" name. Its ruined for me.

diddlediddle · 14/09/2019 12:05

Just really can't get on with the idea of calling babies, boys especially, names that end in ie. It's so twee and babyish. These babies will grow into men! Fine if they personally choose to have a casual nn ending ie but seriously, it's nice to have the option of a name with more gravitas. It's a no from me unless it's a nn.

Mysteriously · 14/09/2019 12:20

I am a bit worried about it being too cutesy but then names like that are quite popular at the moment so I don't think people will really question a man being called Albie. I do like Albus much more than Albert but I did immediately think Harry potter, which I like but would it be too close of a link?

DramaAlpaca · 14/09/2019 12:23

Too cutesy. It's OK on a toddler, but Albert is much more dignified for an adult. At least think about putting it on the bc to give him the option.

bbciii · 14/09/2019 12:24

No.

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 14/09/2019 12:25

I know a 40 year old Albie so I don't find it cutsie. I like it and thought about it when I was pregnant but dp said no.

Sunshineys · 14/09/2019 12:31

Way too cutesy. Sounds like the name of a teddy bear or doll. Your son won't thank you when he's a teenager or grown man.

Albert of Albus are lovely names.

AverageMummy · 14/09/2019 12:46

I think Alban is a lovely alternative to Albert

cookielove · 14/09/2019 12:55

Cute

WLmum · 14/09/2019 13:05

I love it, but would go with Albert as full name and use Albie as nn. Then as he grows, he can choose to be more or less 'cutesie' or formal by being Albert/Al/Bert if he wants. Fwiw, I wouldn't have any concerns about Albie as he grows - I can imagine it as a uni name, and a work name. All good by me.
I'm someone that steers away from the most common names, and my heart sinks when I hear people calling their babies perfectly nice, but bland (IMO) names

Sunshineys · 14/09/2019 14:07

If you don't like Albert, I wouldn't use Albie.

MikeUniformMike · 14/09/2019 14:09

Don't like it.

Bouffalant · 14/09/2019 14:12

I absolutely hate names like this. Albie, Archie, Alfie, they set my teeth on edge for some reason.

There are so many of these cutesy twee abbreviations going around right now. If you must do it can't you give them the full name so the child has the choice in future to use the real name?

My own name is a nickname of a traditional name, good lord I wish they'd given me the full name. I hate it.

PreschoolYes · 14/09/2019 14:14

Not for me, I don't like the trend for Albie, Archie, Alfie.

Albie especially sounds cutesy and made up, even though I know kids with the name. I'd try and find a full name for the birth certificate and use Albie day to day.

Lavenderblues · 14/09/2019 14:21

I hate cutesy babyish names like Alfie, Archie, Albie, Bertie, Teddie etc. They sound so cute and twee. Suitable for a baby's nickname or a soft toy.

They also don't travel well into other languages.

Lavenderblues · 14/09/2019 14:23

Your son won't thank you once he starts secondary school. Please give him a more solid name.

Grufallosfriends · 14/09/2019 14:37

Just really can't get on with the idea of calling babies, boys especially, names that end in ie. It's so twee and babyish. These babies will grow into men!

That summarises my view too. Way too cutesy and babyish.

There are so many great boys names out there!

kenandbarbie · 14/09/2019 14:52

Yeah too cutsie for me too. Alberts nice though.
