What are your thoughts on the names Lisbet and Bethan (not together obviously)

I really like Bethan but not Lisbet as PP have said, it's too nicknamy.

bridgetreilly · 10/09/2019 21:31

Missed all the drama!

I like Bethan but Lisbet sounds like a child's mispronunciation, not an actual name.

Astronica · 11/09/2019 01:15

I love Bethan and don't mind Lisbet.

diddlediddle · 11/09/2019 07:36

Lisbet is unbearably twee but might just about be ok as a nn for Elizabeth for a very young child.

Bethan or Bethany are both nice, solid names.

Jellycat00 · 11/09/2019 08:45

Not too keen on Lisbet. But Bethan is really nice. I prefer Beth though, or Bethany.

NearLifeExperience · 11/09/2019 09:06

But they’re both versions of Elizabeth, surely?

It’s like giving your two children the same name Confused

Bizarre.

NearLifeExperience · 11/09/2019 09:07

Oops sorry... thought this was about twins /siblings Blush

As you were.

MrsBertBibby · 11/09/2019 09:31

Lisbet is the Swedish/Danish variant of Elizabeth. It's a perfectly respectable name in its own right.

Enko · 11/09/2019 09:44

I don't care for Bethan I find it a very harsh name
I grew up in Denmark and I do like Lisbet I prefer it spelled Lisbeth personally I have known several all lovely girls so for me it has warm and lovely connotation. There is also a "vaudeville" " En søndag på Amager," (A Sunday on Amager) where the female lead is called Lisbeth as a child I thought it was just the most romantic play ever 😀

Jossina · 11/09/2019 09:45

As nicknames for Elizabeth or Elspeth or Bethany etc sure. Not on their own though.

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2019 09:57

Bethan is a bit dated in welsh-speaking Wales. Bethan in a non-welsh accent (Bethun) is not pretty.

NationMcKinley · 11/09/2019 10:01

Disappointed to have missed Dave n Sue

Bethan is ok.

Don’t like Lisbet at all. It’s really harsh and sounds like a place name in a Scandi noir series or something

daisypond · 11/09/2019 10:05

I’m not keen on Bethan but I quite Lisbet. I prefer Lisbeth though. Elspeth is good also.

yellowallpaper · 11/09/2019 10:59

Not keen on lisbet. Doesn't sound like a real name, but something someone with a lisp would say

Nonmerci · 12/09/2019 11:41

My friend is Bethan, she gets Beth or Bethany a lot which winds her up.

I don’t like Lisbet at all.

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 22:02

Am I the only one desperate to know what Dave & Sue were up to?!?! Grin

Frith2013 · 12/09/2019 22:37

LIsbet is ridiculous.

Bethan is ok.
