Which do you prefer and why?

Rose. Beautiful and classic.

AverageMummy · 09/09/2019 11:00

I couldn’t choose but am having a boy which ended the dilemma

I think Rose is a beautiful underused classic
Rosa is a gorgeous name with a brilliant feminist history

Both are brilliant

AverageMummy - this is exactly what I like about both names and exactly why I’m having such a hard time deciding! Grin

I was leaning towards Rosa I think - especially when I realised it was the ‘original’ Latin rather than a twist of the name Rose. I felt Rosa sounded a little stronger too - although not sure that’s quite the right word. Plus there are a large number of names hyphenated with Rose whereas Rosa seems rarer. But overall they’re both beautiful - you can’t go wrong!

Rosa, absolutely love it.

Kanga83 · 09/09/2019 11:15

Or, for the 'why'- Rosa Parks is an incredible woman and there's a lovely strong reason for the name. It sounds sophisticated and will suit baby up to old lady. Rose, also lovely, but, I think runs the risks of 'rosie' even as nn and I absolutely hate that name.

elliex1 · 09/09/2019 11:46

Rosa! So underused and pretty.

user1493494961 · 09/09/2019 12:29

Rose.

MissHenty · 09/09/2019 13:48

Rose. It’s just gorgeous. So simple but lovely. One syllable
Like both though

Peachbubble · 09/09/2019 13:51

Rose - classic English name.

PennyBlossom1 · 09/09/2019 13:57

Rosa! Smile I think Rose sounds more old lady-ish.

Astronica · 09/09/2019 13:59

Rose. Stylish, more timeless than Rosa.

GraceWatt · 09/09/2019 14:27

I agree with the others, Rose is a lovely example of a classic name.

DramaAlpaca · 09/09/2019 15:47

Rose, for the reasons everyone else has said. It's simple & classic.

HeadintheiClouds · 09/09/2019 15:48

Rosa.

ClaraThePigeon · 09/09/2019 15:57

Rose.

Pemba · 09/09/2019 16:09

Rosa, equally classic and a bit more unusual. I still like Rose too, but Rose (as a middle name) is so common now. And Rosa is a more international name I feel, in most countries it would be 'Rosa' rather than Rose. Well Rose is also the default in France but don't they pronounce it differently there, more like 'Roz' (short 'a')?

Plus Rosa Parks.

Shadow1234 · 09/09/2019 23:37

Rosa is beautiful! ( Know quite a few Rose and Rosie's, and very popular as a middle name)

MikeUniformMike · 10/09/2019 08:40

Rosa gives the option of Rose as a nn. Both nice. Rose a bit overused as a mn.

NearLifeExperience · 10/09/2019 12:37

Rose.

I think Rosa may be a bit faddy and its popularity will wane, whereas Rose will remain classic.

But then I’m biased as I have a Rose of my own.

mumof3andadoggy · 10/09/2019 15:24

Rose. Classic and beautiful.
