Hi!

What do you think of
Thomas Ethan B.
(being first name, middle name, first letter of surname) ?

Nice name but, as others have said, quite common so likely others with his name at school or work.

Personally I prefer nice normal names outside the top 100 - there are a lot of lovely names!

daisypond · 06/09/2019 09:51

It’s not really very common. It’s only 0.5% of babies, so one in 200. Unlikely to be with any others in his year in primary school and maybe only another one in a large secondary.

shoobidoos · 06/09/2019 10:06

You really need to look at the cumulative number, as Thomas has been in the top names for many years. I know at least 5 aged below 18. Again, nothing wrong with that, but the purpose of these threads is to point these issues out.

Personally I disliked having a popular 70s name that I shared and still share with others.

Sophronia · 08/09/2019 13:32

Lovely.

MissHenty · 08/09/2019 15:32

Yeh it’s a really great name and I’ve actually not come across another Thomas/Tom under 10yo

Gatepost1820 · 08/09/2019 15:52

Lovely name even though it's hugely popular in dc's school, there are 10 in her year.

Lavenderblues · 08/09/2019 16:12

There are several Thomases in our school, so yes it's pretty popular.

enir2 · 09/09/2019 16:38

Haha ! Thanks for all the reviews.

I'm not much of a '' in search for the unique original'' weird name.

I know it's popular on paper but i personally don't know any Tom/Thomas and the 2 only Tommy I know are 30 years old.

I like it, it's really not that common in my area atleast.

My DS has a "popular" name and has gone through primary school being "Name A" - can't say it's hard much of an impact on him and we/he likes his name. He's at secondary now and it's a total non-issue.

I personally prefer nice boring names to weird unique ones.

Lavenderblues · 09/09/2019 18:22

I personally prefer nice boring names to weird unique ones.

Why is the alternative to a boring name necessarily s weird one Hmm?

There are literally thousands of lovely normal names that aren't used several thousand times per year.

I hated having to add a modifier to my name at school and work. And I know so many Steves and Sarahs for example that I also need their surname to know which one we're talking about.

SquintEastwood · 09/09/2019 18:37

@Lavenderblues I was being obtuse... I don't think that there are such things as nice boring/weird unique names but it's often alluded to on here if you mention classic names.

How you feel about your name doesn't really matter if the OP likes this name, anecdotally I work with 3 others with my name within a team of 15 and really doesn't bother me tbh.

I've also worked with kids for the past 17 years and can count on one hand the Thomas/Tom's I've met in that time - I know 3 adults so in total probably about 7 in my 32 years. It's not common here at all (NE Scotland) and OP has said the same of her area.

Love it!!

MikeyTheMouse · 10/09/2019 13:01

Gorgeous name! I love the name Thomas but unfortunately it’s my mums ex’s name so we couldn’t use it
