Why are girls names so hard?!

noahsmum2016 · 01/09/2019 16:01

I instantly loved my son's name Noah but really struggling this time around!
I don't want matchy names.
This is my list so far but I'm just not sure..... What do you think of these names? Suggestions also welcome.

Matilda - Girls name from when I was expecting Noah, but not sure whether to use.
Sofia
Evie
Darcey
Georgia - Heard on a baby recently and really liked.
Elsie
Frankie - Unisex but seems to have a lovely appeal about it
Connie - Had a dream before I found out I was expecting that I'd have a girl called Connie. Worried my family will think its too old fashioned.

Your help would be immensely appreciated!

Matilda - adore this name
Sofia - also fabulous
Evie - it’s ok but I find it boring
Darcey - the multiple spellings all individually popular put me off this
Georgia - It’s ok but more trendy than classic so less my own personal style - I adore Georgiana though
Elsie - pretty
Frankie - don’t like it

AverageMummy · 01/09/2019 16:06

Not sure what happened to Connie - I adore Connie as a nickname but would probably prefer a longer full name if I used it myself. I think my favourite of the long versions would be Coraline.

noahsmum2016 · 01/09/2019 16:07

Also just found Paloma. Thought it sounded strong and sophisticated but is it too "out there" to be used?

Matilda - I don't mind this name but I don't love it.
Sofia - pretty, classic, don't think it would 'date'.
Evie - at this point I find it quite boring as there are just soooo many so it's a no from me.
Darcey - I really like this name.
Georgia - lovely. Probably my favourite on the list.
Elsie - on trend with the old-fashioned names that have made a comeback, don't really like it personally.
Frankie- quite like, probably would use this as a nn for Francesca.
Connie - not a huge fan.

Suggestions: Jemima, Georgina, Leila, Victoria.

userabcname · 01/09/2019 16:07

Oh I do like Paloma!

Thatnovembernight · 01/09/2019 16:26

I like Connie (my daughter has a friend called this - it’s a great name) and I like Sofia too. A friend of mine has a baby called Bonnie which is also nice!

Matilda - lovely name
Sofia - nice name but prefer the Sophia spelling
Evie - nice name but very popular
Darcey/Darcy - Love this name (dont mind either spelling)
Elsie - One of my favourite old lady names
Frankie - Love Francesca and would have this as nn
Connie - probably my least favourite on the list
Georgia - lovely name
Paloma - not for me

veeboo · 01/09/2019 17:01

I love several of your names! Georgia and Connie are on my list too and I would just go Connie, not a longer version.

I dont like Matilda but some other names on my list are
Sadie
Penelope
Zoe
Robyn/Robin
Olive (bit out there but it's a family name)

Love Matilda, as pp would use Francesca, dislike Darcey and Paloma, only like the spelling Sophia, to me Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria..

noahsmum2016 · 01/09/2019 18:51

I also love Juliet too but this was a nickname for me by a good friend many years ago - so I wondered if I could really use for my child?

Love everything nautical...... took a liking to Marina, but could I have Noah and Marina together?

I really like Connie and Georgia. I like Frankie as a nn for Francesca

Matilda's are everywhere in my local area to the point that I find it dull and I used to love it

Rose220 · 01/09/2019 20:05

My little girl is called dalanie, so far she's the only one I have come across. Not many people now how to say it but if you go onto Google translate and type it in under the English language it will pronounce it for you. I think it's really pretty name and so glad I called her dalanie and alot of people have said how lovely the name is and how unusual xx

Kuponut · 01/09/2019 20:15

Evie/Darcey of the various spellings/Sofia in its various Sophie-related guidelines and Matilda are very common around our neck of the woods.

I found the hardest bit with girls names being picking something that suits a cute little girl but will also suit an awkward teen and a mature arse-kickingly-awesome young woman too.

noahsmum2016 · 01/09/2019 21:09

Thats what I'm finding so hard, picking a strong but feminine name that would see her through life and compliments Noah. Arghhhhh!!

Do you have a single syllable surname? It’s just that if your name was something like ‘Gray’ for example, then I think Matilda sounds brilliant. I suppose I like it anyway regardless, but a friend of mine who has a surname like ‘Gray’ has named her daughter Matilda and it sounds great.

CatalogueUniverse · 01/09/2019 21:19

Robin, Wren, Astrid.

MarshaBradyo · 01/09/2019 21:22

Francesca and nn is nice

Paloma I find interesting and nice but yet to meet one

Not Evie - too many too cutsey

MakeUpNArmy · 01/09/2019 21:34

So for my daughter, I wanted something that no one else would have but had a magnetism to it, as in people would hopefully be drawn to it, and so after much deliberation, we went with Ophelia, and now almost 8 years later, there's not about name in existence that fits her there way here does... I always, I'll know as soon as I see her, and so out she came and I knew then it was meant to be... I think you'll find the same thing, you'll know as soon as you see her EXACTLY who she is... I'm addition though a friend of mine just named her daughter Lundynn(London)... To which I told her, what a fantastic name it is, but that she could've passed on the janky spelling and it still would have had the impact it does... Just do what feels right, it'll all fall into place 😏

noahsmum2016 · 01/09/2019 21:37

MakeUpNArmy Thank you. Im being hard on myself because with my son he had a name at 20 week scan, he was that person and completely suited his name even when he arrived. I feel a huge pang of guilt I can't find the name.

I thought Connie was short for Constance.

noahsmum2016 · 01/09/2019 21:41

Something keeps drawing me back to Matilda and Connie. I had a dream about Connie before I found out I was pregnant.. And Matilda I had when I had my son. Is this a sign I should use them?

KronksSpinachPuffs · 01/09/2019 23:19

Matilda - really like
Sofia - love but think I prefer the spelling Sophia
Evie - not keen
Darcey - not keen
Georgia - love
Elsie - dislike
Frankie - like
Connie - I like it! It's less old fashioned than Elsie in my opinion
Marina - pretty!
Paloma - not 100% sure on this but I think I like it!

Sophronia · 02/09/2019 08:45

I like Marina best but Matilda, Connie and Paloma are nice too.
