DH and I thought we'd finally settled on a name for DD. I googled the full name (first name + surname) and it's some Instagram celeb with big boobs, fake lips and 200k followers.

Would this bother you? DH thinks it shouldn't matter, neither of us have ever heard of her. I'm not so sure though, I think it's kind of put me off.

It wouldn’t put me off. To be honest by the time your daughter is of an age to be googled Instagram probably won’t be such a thing.

mumtobe1984 · 30/08/2019 22:08

I'm so curious as to who you mean!!!

Morado · 30/08/2019 22:30

I depends on the name. I know loads of Tom Jones's and didn't bat an eyelid. However I went to school with a scrawny blonde white lad named Bob Marley!

lorinska · 30/08/2019 22:33

Depends on how distinctive the name is... if it’s Stormi or something I probs wouldn’t go there

lorinska · 30/08/2019 22:33

What’s the celeb, I’m so curious

BethanyGilbert · 31/08/2019 07:53

I couldn’t have my favourite name because of a British actress with the same first name surname convo.

DD does have the same name as an Australian model but I had never heard of till I googled DD’s name.
OH’s surname is very common!

Wouldn't put me off unless namesake had really obnoxious reputation/ was well-known for publicly spouting offensive views etc.

The way social media's sadly going, if just being...um...'cosmetically enhanced' and an Insta Influencer is automatic grounds for eliminating baby names, that's potentially one heck of a lot of otherwise very nice ones which will go unused!

I agree with your DH, but go with your instincts if it does bother you.

Once your DD is here she'll soon become her name and you'll forget all about Insta-tits.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 31/08/2019 08:59

"Insta-tits"

If it’s someone extremely famous who is likely to still be known in years to come then I’d avoid. Or if it’s a really unusually name.

If it’s a common name and only an “influencer” famous person then I’d say go ahead and use the name you love.

ZebraKid71 · 31/08/2019 20:57

It depends on the name..

I have a friend named Emma Watson and people don't bat an eyelid as they're both really common names (she actually likes it because it's almost impossible to google her and find out anything about her!) but if she was named Angelina Jolie it would be different.

200k followers isn't really that many in the big scheme of things and she'll likely have dropped out of favour in a few years.. , ask around and see how many people have heard of her.

polkadotpixie · 31/08/2019 21:20

My DS has the same first name and middle name as a celebrity's first name and surname if that makes sense?

I didn't realise until we'd picked it but having Googled to check it wasn't a serial killer's name I discovered this guy. He's pretty cool so we decided to name him our chosen name anyway

RuthW · 31/08/2019 23:26

My 22 year old dd has the exact fist and last name of a current pop star who no one had heard of in 1997 when dd was born.

MrsLinManuelMiranda · 31/08/2019 23:33

Well if it is Gemma Collins run for the hills.

Dragonbabies · 01/09/2019 18:44

I think it’s ok as long as they’re not massively well known ie Michael Jackson. I have an Elliott Smyth and a few people have mentioned the singer with the same name (spelt differently) but I don’t mind, it’s not like I named him after him.
