I Googled it - with audio and got La-la-Gae or La-La-zhay or La-Lag

The name is Lalage.

Am I going to have to be that dickhead who says 'interesting name, how do you say it?

I would take a gues it is pronounced to rhyme with Farage (as in Nigel) so Lalaahzhe

KurriKurri · 24/08/2019 14:36

I had a friend at school with a similar sort of name - she was always known as Lala for short.

user1480880826 · 24/08/2019 14:36

Why do you think you should know? It’s hardly a common name. Nothing embarrassing about asking. The parents must have anticipated that when they chose such an unusual name.

ConfCall · 24/08/2019 16:39

The one I knew is aged about 88 assuming she’s still alive. La la gee (hard G). Her friends including my parents called her Lala. I like the name and the nickname.

theotherfossilsister · 24/08/2019 17:43

No update yet, sorry. I hope it's Lala though. I kind of like that. (not Lah Lah like the teletubbie though.) I will update when we hear it said.

I read it to rhyme with Farage. I don't think this is a good thing!

I’m over invested now and need to know 🤭. Never heard of it.

autumnkate · 25/08/2019 11:47

It’s Lall- a- gay

I met one once and she told me it meant babbling brook.

HotChocolateLover · 25/08/2019 11:59

What a hideous name! That poor kid is going to face a lifetime of this at job interviews, doctors surgeries etc. Basically anywhere where you have to fill in a form without meeting the person first. I feel sorry for her.

ArthurMorgan · 25/08/2019 12:19

My friend is called this and we say lala-zhay

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 25/08/2019 12:27

Pronounced Mary Grin

OctopusNow · 25/08/2019 12:49

I'd say Lalagee to rhyme with analogy.

No idea if it's right but if I saw it written down, that's what I'd go with.

You'll have to ask because the parents could pronounce it in a very specific way. I doubt you'll be the first to ask!

Orangepear · 25/08/2019 13:00

The one I know is pronounced Lallajee.

Grufallosfriends · 26/08/2019 08:04

Lots of names have different ways of pronouncing them. Even popular ones like Helena or Thea have different pronunciations. Of course it's fine to ask!

I know a Lalage who pronounces it La la jee

ThighThighOfthigh · 26/08/2019 08:08

The one i know is Lalagay.

Spraoi · 26/08/2019 08:14

Just ask. My kids have Irish names- everyone in Ireland can easily say them. In England we get lots of questions and the odd person insisting on saying them as they think it should be said which is beyond rude and annoying.

FamilyOfAliens · 26/08/2019 08:14

That poor child. Especially if she ends up with the nickname Lala Sad

EmilyStar · 26/08/2019 08:23

You’ll have to ask. Better than just guessing and getting it wrong!

If they’ve picked a name as unusual as that, they’ll presumably not be surprised at people checking the pronunciation.

OrganisedFun27 · 02/05/2023 19:58

What was the answer in the end?

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/05/2023 23:41

My aunt says it La-La-Gee 🤷‍♀️

RoamingToaster · 03/05/2023 09:35

I see this is an old thread though the OP never did get back. I've never seen a thread with so many suggestions of pronunciations - I'm completely clueless on how to say it. @theotherfossilsister Do you know how to say it now?

theotherfossilsister · 03/05/2023 13:25

La la gah

It's grown on me

Olios · 04/05/2023 21:12

I've never heard of it either

topcat2014 · 07/05/2023 09:37

Poor child with a lifetime of this ahead
