I'm absolutely in love with the name Georgia but DM thinks it's common! I've never thought of it in that way but now I'm starting to wonder if it is. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I don't think so. Confused

I think ................ if I really think about it ''Georgina'' seems more upper class but perhaps that's only because it's a more daring choice. A slightly more daring choice.

In pride and prejudice, Mr Darcy's ward was called Georgina. I think. I am very open to being corrected!

CassianAndor · 24/08/2019 12:08

Common as in popular or common as in chavvy, if that’s what he really means? Neither.

31 wasn’t she Georgiana?

Ohyesiam · 24/08/2019 12:08

I have a friend who comes from” old money”, she is possibly my poshest friend, and is called Georgia.
Your d might be thinking of Jorja

Violetparis · 24/08/2019 12:09

Not common at all, I think it's a classic name.

userabcname · 24/08/2019 12:09

No I don't think so. I think it's lovely and so is Georgina.

31RueCambon · 24/08/2019 12:11

@CassianAndor ah yes, thank you! I had a feeling i hadn't landed on the right version of the name. Georgiana is lovely.

sheshootssheimplores · 24/08/2019 12:11

I would have used Georgia for a girl. But the. Love Island came along and I went off it 🥴

sheshootssheimplores · 24/08/2019 12:11

Georgiana is indeed lovely. Use that!

31RueCambon · 24/08/2019 12:11

Jorja is Spanish.

pumkinspicetime · 24/08/2019 12:13

If you are concerned about this I would use Georgiana.

soulrider · 24/08/2019 12:19

Jorja is Spanish.

Jorja is not a spanish name.

Jorge is the Spanish form or George, Jorja is a made up spelling of Georgia

MagpieSong · 24/08/2019 12:24

I know lots of Georgia's (went to secondary around the millenium, and seemed a popular name then). Some posh and some not so posh. I think it spans all classes - much like Amy, Lauren, Laura, Jane, Natasha, Emma etc.

My best name advice is to not care too much what anyone else thinks. We didn't tell anyone (but my parents who were under strict instruction to be polite and positive about whatever I said) the names until ds was born. A good friend of mine told her parents a name she loved and they were so rude about it, which I thought was such a shame as it would really have suited. Once my ds was born and the name was announced, no rude remarks were made despite it being pretty unusual. I knew we'd get some raised eyebrows during pregnancy if it was mentioned and I couldn't be bothered with that. If you like Georgia, I'd say never mind your mother's thoughts and go with what you really like. Smile It's your baby, not your mum's.

(Darcy's sister is definitely Georgiana - which is a beautiful name too.)

cacklingmags · 24/08/2019 12:39

Georgia is good, Georgina is good, Georgiana is good. She will be called Georgie so you might as well give her one of the longer versions that she can play around with more when she is older.

AverageMummy · 24/08/2019 12:42

Sounds sort of the only way is Essex to me (not that I’ve seen it so could be talking nonsense). That’s the sort of vibe it has to me.
I adore Georgiana but probably because I love literary names.

DramaAlpaca · 24/08/2019 12:51

I'm sorry, OP, but I agree with your DM. Georgina or Georgiana are much classier.

31RueCambon · 24/08/2019 12:59

Well, it's very rare even in spain but it is a name.

Quaffy · 24/08/2019 13:05

No, it isn’t ‘common’. Liking or not liking it is a matter of opinion but absolutely not common. My sister teaches in a private school and it’s full of Georgias!

SquintEastwood · 24/08/2019 13:13

Who cares?!

If you like it, use it.

I know a few Georgie, Georgia and Georgette's - not to my personal taste but there's nothing wrong with them!

BogglesGoggles · 24/08/2019 13:14

Issue Australian? It was extremely popular (aswere its alternatives) in Australia about 20-30 years ago.

daisypond · 24/08/2019 13:24

I think it is a bit, yes, now. I do know some Georgias in their early 20s, but I think the demographic might have changed and it’s gone a bit downmarket. Georgina and Georgiana are classier now, to me.

Frith2013 · 24/08/2019 13:28

Seems ok to me.

It’s made me think of “Georgia on my mind”

AverageMummy · 24/08/2019 13:28

@Quaffy the demographic using name can change considerably over a decade. Zack used to be super posh....

katy1111 · 24/08/2019 13:29

Does your DH mean common as in popular or common as in chavvy? I don't think it's chavvy at all. I always thought it was quite posh (although more so pre Love Island Wink). For what it's worth I think it's a really pretty name and prefer it to Georgina.

katy1111 · 24/08/2019 13:32

Sorry, DM not DH.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 24/08/2019 13:32

I think it is a terrific name!!!
