Expecting DS imminently.

Have a DD with a traditional ‘old ladies name’ (think Florence, Edith, Evelyn, Lilian-it’s along these lines)

I really like the name Franco for DS but worried it doesn’t ‘go’ with DD name-also he is likely to be blonde and fair with a fairly traditional English surname. Does this matter? Also considering Franklin and just using Franco as a nickname.

No, it doesn't matter! They will be two completely different people so having different style names won't matter.

Besides, Franco is a really lovely name 😊

daisypond · 24/08/2019 09:52

I think it’s odd, sorry. Why not call him Francis with Franco as a short form?

FenellaMaxwell · 24/08/2019 09:58

I just think of General Franco. Which is not something I would want my child’s name associated with!

Namechangefortheoc · 24/08/2019 10:00

Daisypond I don’t like Francis.

Ah, Franklin is fine, then. Hadn’t thought about General Franco- hm, one to think about.

CitizensNotSubjects · 24/08/2019 10:04

My mind goes straight to General Franco and that's not good.

underthebridgedowntown · 24/08/2019 10:15

Yep, first thought was also General Franco. Although admittedly when he's a toddler he'll live up to the name.

implantsandaDyson · 24/08/2019 10:18

I wouldn't worry about how he's going to look matching up to a name at all. However I really don't think that using Franco as a name is the way to go at all, my mind would be heading straight to General Franco every time and there's just no positives there.

Antonin · 24/08/2019 10:25

One of my gripes is the lack of knowledge about history younger people have etc so I doubt many non Spanish people will associate the name with the dictator.
I think Franco is a diminutive of Francesco and is still popular in Spanish speaking countries, anyway. What about Franco Nero?
Your children’s names don’t necessarily have to match so you don’t need to worry about that.
Go for either Franco or Franklin nn Franco. I dislike plain Frank and much prefer the alternatives
Good luck

Shortfeet · 24/08/2019 10:29

Choose the name you like !

When did this names having to match become a thing ? It's nonsense Grin

AverageMummy · 24/08/2019 10:40

No children aren’t fashion accessories and don’t need to match
I don’t actually like Franko though

AverageMummy · 24/08/2019 10:42

I also immediately thought General Franco

Namechangefortheoc · 24/08/2019 11:01

Hm yes I see the point about General Franco. I think we will go with Franklin and use Franco as a nn. Thanks all.

Like Franco the dictator?

God, no!!!!!!

Oysterbabe · 24/08/2019 20:30

I clicked this thread early. FB obviously stalking me again.

What would you think?
BethanyGilbert · 25/08/2019 06:51

I love love love the name Franco. There was a Steelers player with the first name Franco and we watched a lot of NFL documentaries when I was pregnant. Had a girl though.
Thank you for reminding me how much I love this name!

user1493494961 · 25/08/2019 07:43

Yes, General Franco here. It will go with the 'old lady' name eventually as I expect it will get shortened to Frank.

Starryskiesinthesky · 25/08/2019 07:46

I think Franco is lovely and despite me being around in the dictators days it didnt cross my mind.

CakeRattleandRoll · 25/08/2019 08:43

General Franco was my first thought, too.

SemperIdem · 25/08/2019 09:23

I think Franklin nn Franco is best. A lot of people will think of the actor James Franco (of dubious behaviour towards women infamy) and a lot more will think of General Franco, who is even more questionable as a namesake.

whatausername · 25/08/2019 13:18

I'm under 30 and my first thought was General Franco.

FloatingObject · 25/08/2019 13:20

Much prefer Franklin!

kenandbarbie · 25/08/2019 13:31

I didn't think of Franco the dictator but of the actor Francos, not a great association because of the sex abuse allegations, but that will probably not matter in the future as they get less famous. Franklin is ok but I prefer Francis or Frank.

HarrietM87 · 25/08/2019 13:38

General Franco for sure! Why don’t you just call him Frank? (Pretty sure it will end up as Frank anyway).

MoaningMinnie1 · 25/08/2019 13:51

Franklin is really nice, my friend's daughter named her son Franklin and he's Frankie or Frank for short; Franco would be a good nickname for Franklin too.
