Lottie as diminutive/nickname for Élodie?

Just that really...do you think Lottie could possibly work as a diminutive or nickname for Élodie?

(Also wondering whether Mia/Mimi work as a nickname for Emerson...for a girl).

Thank you so much in advance! Xx

I don't like Emerson at all, although it is a nice surname, and Elodie is probably pretty if you are French but a bit meh in the uk. Neither would naturally give you the suggested nn.
Just use Lottie (or Charlotte) and Mia or Mimi if that's what you intend to use.

SoyDora · 14/08/2019 21:07

No to either. Call her Lottie or Mia

SteeperThanHell · 14/08/2019 22:30

No they don’t. Lottie (Charlotte) and Mia are both lovely names - Elodie (not great) - Emerson (awful)

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 14/08/2019 22:44

No, not at all. It's from a completely different name....

Mammyloveswine · 14/08/2019 22:47

Elodie is a beautiful name! Why would you want a nickname?? Would be more "Elilie" or "didi"

bridgetreilly · 14/08/2019 22:54

Mimi could work for Miriam.

campion · 14/08/2019 23:03

If you want a daughter called Lottie then call her Lottie. It's a name.

OTOH Emerson is definitely a boy's name in my world but maybe I see too much football. It won't be used for girls for very long so it'll soon be dated.

Cantrip · 14/08/2019 23:26

It’s not what you’d expect but, you can nickname your daughter whatever you want! My name’s Laura and my parents always called me Loulou, which makes no sense at all 🤣

pikapikachu · 14/08/2019 23:30

People will assume that Lottie is Charlotte

The natural nicknames are surely El for Elodie and Em or Emmy for Emerson?

StillANobdie · 14/08/2019 23:49

Reminds me that my DF still calls me Cod. This bears no relation to my actual name. He calls my DSis Boodle. Again, no link. Their dogs get all kinds of NN, mostly taken from Dickens and Trollope. Though I can't really complain as I call him Noddle. So I wouldn't get too hung up on NN. Just choose a name you love, either long or short, and see what happens. My DD has a long, unusual and beautiful name, but is still somehow known as Scrumble Confused.

AlexaAmbidextra · 15/08/2019 00:04

My cat’s called Lottie. 😂

theresnotthatmuchtoit · 15/08/2019 00:06

Why would you call a girl a name which means "son of" someone? In this case Emery...

FamilyOfAliens · 15/08/2019 09:41

Still can’t get my head around imposing a nickname on an unborn child, never mind whether it’s connected to the name on the birth certificate.

NoSauce · 15/08/2019 09:50

Use Lottie if you like the name but not as a non for Elodie. Carlotta is a lovely suggestion.

Theonewiththeblonde · 15/08/2019 10:06

No no no for both. Emerson is particularly horrid though

AverageMummy · 15/08/2019 10:14

No but you can use whatever nickname you like.
Not keen on using a name that means ‘son of...’ for a girl.

Southfox · 15/08/2019 12:40

Sorry it just doesn't work. I'm called Charlotte it kinda makes me wince to use Lottie as a diminutive for the 'wrong' name

Firsttimemama2017 · 15/08/2019 13:41

Elodie and Emerson are both pretty but those nicknames are a bit of a stretch!

Flowerspowersy · 15/08/2019 14:37

Elodie doesn't need shortening. Ellie is the most natural nickname if it does get shortened.

TheYeaSayer · 15/08/2019 15:56

My DD ended up with a different diminutive than the one we chose (she's one at home, the other everywhere else!). You don't get to decide, really.

and Emerson is a horrific name for a girl

diddlediddle · 15/08/2019 16:00
