Sylvie?

Can’t decide if I like it or not! I think it’s pretty but it kind of conjures up the image of an immaculate, silver-haired, 55 year old, successful business woman in my mind.

I think Sylvie Jade is lovely but I’m not sold.

yellowallpaper · 13/08/2019 11:09

Nope.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 13/08/2019 13:21

Only if you're going to give birth to a middle-aged French woman.

doodlejump1980 · 13/08/2019 13:23

Love it! We have one in our family.

NoSauce · 13/08/2019 13:53

I think it quite sweet, I hate Jade though.

Whoops75 · 13/08/2019 13:55

I love it and love Sylvia too.

JuneSpoon · 13/08/2019 13:57

I love it! Sylvia is beautiful. Or Sylviana. Silviana?
Very elegant

JuneSpoon · 13/08/2019 13:57

Sorry, Sylvia is also beautiful

Astronica · 13/08/2019 14:01

I love Sylvie. Not keen on Jade though.

AcrobaticCardigan · 13/08/2019 14:03

Love Sylvie, but not with Jade as a middle name (even though I do like the name Jade as a first name).

NoSauce · 13/08/2019 14:05

No not Sylvia! That name belongs to your grans best mate that she meets twice weekly for bingo!

IslandTulip · 13/08/2019 14:12

I like it.

Only if you're going to give birth to a middle-aged French woman

Dd's French exchange partner's mum is called Sylvie Grin I think French/English name fashions aren't in sync though. Isabelle was popular for French teens in the 80s when I was doing French exchanges but was old fashioned in England then, but is popular for young English people now. (Not sure if op is English)

EllenRipley · 13/08/2019 14:21

Love it! That was top of my list if I'd had a girl.
Not so sure about Jade though.

Antonin · 13/08/2019 14:22

Better than the popular Evie.
Jade is out of date now. I know Sylvie has nothing to do with silver but it sounds like silver and Jade is a green stone so a mish mash of colours.

DejaVoodoo · 13/08/2019 16:45

I think it's lovely. As is Sylvia.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 13/08/2019 16:50

I once worked with a girl called Sylvana - that is nice. Had a French penfriend called Sylvie - it is pretty.

daisypond · 13/08/2019 17:23

I had a French pen friend called Sylvie too- way back in the early ‘80s. I prefer Sylvia. It has more strength to it.

YessicaHaircut · 13/08/2019 17:29

Love it - I agree with PPs though, not keen on Jade as middle name with it. A friend of mine has girls called Sylvie and Daphne and I just love their names.

IsobelRae23 · 13/08/2019 20:04

Sylvia and Sylvie remind me of old ladies in their 80’s, as I met many of them in the care homes I used to go to train at. Big no from me.

funmummy48 · 13/08/2019 20:05

I think it’s lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 14/08/2019 12:22

I like Sylvie, but I don't like Jade.

Sylvie is quite vintage, so it would work better with either a classic or a modern middle name. Jade is just too 70s.

diddlediddle · 14/08/2019 16:26

Sylvie is nice and sounds quite vintage. Adding Jade to it makes it all sound cheap, so just pick a different middle name

catspyjamas27 · 14/08/2019 16:30

I like Sylvie but not sure jade is the best match for it. Sylvie sounds quite classic whereas jade is more modern. That's just my opinion. How about Sylvie rose?

JellyfishAndShells · 14/08/2019 16:40

Sylvie is lovely - Sylvia has a rather older feel to it but you could go with that formally and use the diminutive right from the start. . I tend to use the 'is it nice on a child but also works as a more serious name and non-twee name for the adult they will become' test. Jade - no, too recently fashionable and not a classic .

SoftBlocks · 14/08/2019 16:43

Sylvie Guillem, the ballet dancer.
I know of a Silver, which I quite like although it might be a bit ‘out there’ for some people.
Not keen on Sylvia.

Vivi890 · 15/08/2019 09:42

Love it! And Silvia. I think spelling both with an ‘i’ rather than a ‘y’ freshens them up slightly
