Do you think this is usable?

I quite like it. Better than the usual Alfie, Jack and Ben etc.

AuntieStella · 11/08/2019 22:18

Yes

I think Gibbs has brought some attention to it, in a way that outweighs Tull. So more useable now than it has been for the previous 30 years or so

Mac47 · 11/08/2019 22:46

I hear jethro, I think tull. I am quite old though, so won't be a peer group thing.

Sittinonthefloor · 11/08/2019 22:48

Crude comedian springs to mind for me, sorry.

Layoverlife · 11/08/2019 22:50

🤢

fedup21 · 11/08/2019 22:51

Tull springs to mind but I still rather like it!

Mollie3 · 11/08/2019 23:06

It reminds me a bit of ‘death row’

Antonin · 11/08/2019 23:15

Jethro to me sound very Appalachian, duelling banjos and not very intelligent etc. All brawn and no brain

Astronica · 12/08/2019 00:35

I have the same negative impression as Antonin just described.

Colourfulest · 12/08/2019 08:28

I also think of Jethro Tull buuut I absolutely LOVE the name Jethro! Besides when I think of Jethro Tull I then think of Ian Anderson instead anyway.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 12/08/2019 08:30

Funny someone mentioned Gibbs. I was watching NCIS this week and said to dh I really like the name Jethro.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 12/08/2019 08:31

I had such a mad crush on a boy called Jethro. His mates used to call him, 'Jeth' and I thought that was the coolest. So, I have a soft spot for the name!

AudacityOfHope · 12/08/2019 08:37

Makes me think of a stoner kid wearing clothes filled with bomber holes.

StarlingsInSummer · 12/08/2019 08:38

You'd have to get used to him getting called "Jeff-ro" by all the people who can't manage a "th". Plus the "Tull" associations.

CornishMaid1 · 12/08/2019 08:42

Depends where you live. If you live in the South West, particularly Cornwall, people will think you have named him after the comedian Jethro, which may not be the best name association.

lumpy76 · 12/08/2019 08:46

I went to nursery with a Jethro in 1979/1980. I've never met one since. I think it's a great name. It's a strong name.

mondler · 12/08/2019 08:57

I love it but dh vetoed it. I immediately think ncis.

IsobelRae23 · 12/08/2019 10:44

I think comedian. It’s a big no from me.

BigFatBloomers · 12/08/2019 11:00

He is a really awful Cornish comedian so a big no.
I like Jed and used to know a rather nice one Smile

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 12/08/2019 11:02

Would fit in well down the fruit and veg aisle at Waitrose.

Sophronia · 12/08/2019 11:24

Yes, @CornishMaid1 I live in the South West and it does make me think of the comedian first 😕

Frith2013 · 12/08/2019 18:23

Nope.

a) Cornish idiot who thinks he’s a comedian

b) 70s prog rock band

c) inventor of seed drill

Awful name.

CampfireZen · 12/08/2019 20:28

Seem to remember one of Nick Cave's sons being a Jethro.
Depending on musical taste, maybe that ups the cool factor?

I quite like it. IRL, have only ever known one (now 14ish), so definitely underused for small boys in the central southern region!

Theonewiththeblonde · 13/08/2019 18:25

Oh I absolutely love it! Nothing would put me off using it
