I get to collect my girl bulldog puppy in a week today and the breeder would like me to confirm the name I’ve chosen, which I still haven’t done. I want a really girly feminine name for her!
So far on my list I have:
Colette (Coco)

Suggestions please!

Another poor deformed dog brought into the world... 😞 destined for a life of discomfort, but as long as it looks cute for Instagram...

Bulldogs cannot give birth naturally. The "responsible breeder" you're paying has chosen for their pet to be sedated and operated on unnecessarily. Humans really are a cancer on this planet.

My thoughts: Cindy, Candy, Cheryl, Maggie. Snaps to pp who called her bulldog Babs - excellent choice!

Grace/Gracie?

Antoinette - "let them eat cake" Marie Antoinette ?? 😄

As for the breed looks like you know your stuff. I agree some of them are bred to create this flatter appearance in their faces (which is cruel), but I also believe there are breeders, out there, who are avoiding this.

It's your choice anyway!!

BettyCrockaShit our babs was named by the rehoming charity. We rehomed her 3 years ago after some scumbag was trying to sell her for £50 on gumtree. She was 7 years old and unspayed Sad she was in a shocking state and very poorly. The vet found a puppy mummified inside her 😡
But she found her way to me and new home new name
The charity that saved babs is called the Edward foundation if anyone was interested in a bulldog and didn't want a puppy

Sadly I don't think OP gives a damn that she's buying a dog destined for a life of discomfort and pain. She knows little and think she knows a lot. The worst combo. Poor dog.

hotsouple · 02/08/2019 20:37

Lucrezia for an evil princess ;)

OpheliaTodd · 02/08/2019 20:40

Alone - I agree.

Personally I think any breed that can’t breathe properly should be allowed to go extinct. There are plenty of other breeds to choose from. I know lots of breeds have inherent health problems but I think the brachy breeds differ in that if they were bred to be able to breathe more easily they would in fact end up a completely different dog. So just let them die out.

hotsouple · 02/08/2019 20:41

But I do agree that Brachycephaly in dogs is an evil

ZazieTheCat · 02/08/2019 20:49

This is horrific, I had no idea.

The skull on the left is the original bulldog of the 1800s. The jaw was powerful, but the teeth almost met and they had a decent length of nasal passages, large enough to move air normally and deal with foreign bodies and infection.

On the right is the what breeders have selectively bred the dog to become. No mammal can function normally or live a full life with their skull shaped like that. Can you image if a human had the same jaw proportions? They would be considered grossly deformed and would require lots of corrective surgeries.

There's nothing at all cute about breeding owning bulldogs, pugs or some of the other brachy dogs. It's amoral, thoughtless and cruel to promote the continued suffering of these dogs just because humans find their looks endearing. It's a short and unfulfilled life.

So yes, Asphyxia is the right name.
