Do you see these as boys of girls names?

What gender do you see these names as or do you see them as unisex, I’m asking because I often see unisex names as a girls name or boy name and there’s very few I can see as either:
Logan
Rowan
Reese
Wren
Jordan
Taylor
Robin
Spencer
Ellis
Avery
Eden
Blake
Blair

I know there’s hundreds more but off the top of my head these are what I can think of.

(the last three obv being short forms but widespread enough to have become names in their own right)

MmmBlowholes · 28/07/2019 09:23

I know a female logan

TeapotofTerror · 28/07/2019 09:24

@anothernotherone, yes they do, I know a Smith Brown and his brother, Spencer.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/07/2019 09:25

I really don't like this trend at all. I find it more acceptable in American culture than here in the UK for some reason.

Wren and Eden definitely girls' names.

Robin and Rowan unisex.

The rest, to my mind, boys' names.

However, having said that DD has recently introduced me to the teenage crush delight (in her eyes) of Hero Fiennes-Tiffin. To my mind, Hero is only ever a girl's name.

Lamentations · 28/07/2019 09:26

Wren's a girl. Rowan's a feminine sounding boys name, as is Avery. All the others I think boy.

The only Eden I've heard of is Eden Hazard the footballer who is definitely a bloke.

AdelaideK · 28/07/2019 09:28

I'd say wren, Avery and Eden were girls names.

I think Casey and Ashley are pretty unisex.

littlebitstressed · 28/07/2019 09:29

I know a female Logan I know of three and see it as a unisex name, I like it for both boys and girls but for some reason would only ever want to use it as a girls name.

The first seven names and Eden are unisex. The others seem like boys names to me,

CatteStreet · 28/07/2019 09:31

Oh yes, Ashley's a good one.

There are other unisex names that change spelling (so technically not the 'same' name) - Leslie/Lesley (as well as Robin/Robyn obviously). And names that used to be unisex but have become pretty much exclusively girls' names (Meredith, Hilary).

CatteStreet · 28/07/2019 09:32

And then names that are for boys in some cultures and for girls in others (Andrea, Sasha).

IggyAce · 28/07/2019 09:33

Logan boy
Rowan boy
Reese this spelling girl, Rhys boy
Wren girl
Jordan boy
Taylor boy
Robin this spelling boy, Robyn girl.
Spencer boy
Ellis both
Avery boy
Eden girl
Blake boy
Blair girl

BertrandRussell · 28/07/2019 09:33

No such thing as a “unisex” name. Except possibly Frances/is.

taylorlynn · 28/07/2019 09:33

In the US they are all unisex and wouldn't be frowned upon to call a girl or boy any of these names. To me Logan Reese and Spencer would be the most masculine of the names listed

Heratnumber7 · 28/07/2019 10:02

Logan - boy
Rowan - boy
Reese - neither ( but Reese Witherspoon)
Wren - girl
Jordan - boy
Taylor - I know one so girl
Robin - boy
Spencer - boy
Ellis - boy
Avery - boy
Eden - girl
Blake - boy
Blair - neither

MooseBreath · 28/07/2019 10:59

Logan - boy
Rowan - boy
Reese - girl (Rhys - boy)
Wren - girl
Jordan - boy
Taylor - girl
Robin - girl
Spencer - boy
Ellis - girl
Avery - girl
Eden - girl
Blake - boy
Blair - boy

It doesn't matter what I assume though, because once corrected, I would associate the name with the person.

Frith2013 · 28/07/2019 11:02

Logan - m
Rowan - either
Reese - m
Wren - too awful to inflict on either m or f
Jordan - m
Taylor - m
Robin - old man
Spencer - m
Ellis - m
Avery - kitchen scales
Eden - m
Blake - m
Blair - m

They’re all dreadful names!

bakebakebake · 28/07/2019 11:10

Logan - boy
Rowan - boy
Reese - girl (Reece for boy)
Wren - boy
Jordan - boy
Taylor - unisex (i know more girl Taylors)
Robin - boy (Robyn for girl)
Spencer - boy
Ellis - boy
Avery - unisex
Eden - girl
Blake - unisex
Blair - girl

A few of those names have been in American shows that I've watched, but in the opposite sex.. like Spencer for a girl, whereas I'd normally think boy.

Lucked · 28/07/2019 11:14

Wren and Eden for girls.

Outside fiction I haven’t come across a female Robyn. All the Robins I know are boys/men. The youngest I know is around 7.

Same with Jordan and Reese, I am aware it is unisex but I have only met boys/men with these names

ChillyB · 28/07/2019 11:46

All boys names bar Wren for me. I dislike boys names being used for girls too. There are way more girl names than boys names to choose from in my opinion so it’s unnecessary. Don’t make it harder to choose boy names by using them for girls.

FairyDust92 · 28/07/2019 11:47

I see all of them as boys except Avery & Eden

yikesanotherbooboo · 28/07/2019 11:51

I agree with CatteStreet

boosterrooster · 28/07/2019 11:58

To me Taylor is a girls name. The rest all boys

AtiaoftheJulii · 28/07/2019 11:59

Logan - boy
Rowan - unisex
Reese - girl this spelling, unisex sound
Wren - girl
Jordan - unisex
Taylor - unisex
Robin - unisex, but probably boy this spelling, girl with a y
Spencer - boy
Ellis - boy
Avery - unisex
Eden - girl?
Blake - boy, although it does seem to get used for either
Blair - boy
