Are Acacia and Cassia too similar?

Are these names too similar for siblings?

Is it a problem that they both end in 'ia' but with different pronunciations?
Acacia - Uh-kay-sha
Cassia - Cass-ee-a

Would the pronunciation/spellings of these names be a problem for most people to do correctly?

They are definitely similar but I think you’d get away with it. The pronunciation os fairly logical for them both, IYSWIM. Have you used one name already?

CinnabarRed · 19/07/2019 20:53

Yes. Too similar by far.

DramaAlpaca · 19/07/2019 20:56

Yet another Acacia thread? It's a popular name on here all of a sudden Confused

Anyway, to answer the question, I think they would be fine for siblings.

Loveislandaddict · 19/07/2019 20:59

The pronunciations you’ve written are different.

However, Acacia could be mis-read as Ar- Cass-ia, which is similar to Cassia.

both could have Cassie nickname.

Frith2013 · 19/07/2019 21:01

I don’t pronounce Acasia like you’ve sounded it out in your OP.

I pronounce it A - case - ear. Which is more like Cassia. But it could just be my accent.

SylvanianFrenemies · 19/07/2019 21:03

Isn't Acacia more like Ah-kay-see-ah?

They are pretty close.

Luaa · 19/07/2019 21:05

I don't think they are too similar, although I also would have said A-kay-sh-ee-a (or something like that, I'm rubbish at writing sounds).

Lochroy · 19/07/2019 21:07

As @SylvanianFrenemies said, I don't think that's how Acacia is pronounced, but whichever way, yes, I think they are too similar.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 19/07/2019 21:07

Please dont call a child acacia

DramaAlpaca · 19/07/2019 21:09

I'd pronounce Acacia pretty much as the OP is suggesting. The plant is pronounced that way, as is the name of the only Acacia I know. So to me it's quite different to Cassia, which I'd also say like the OP.

saraclara · 19/07/2019 21:11

Yes, way too similar

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 19/07/2019 21:13

I'd pronounce Cassia as Ca-sha, so yes too similar to acacia.

Baguetteaboutit · 19/07/2019 21:14

Put together they sound like one of the good bacterias in a yoghurt.

Colourfulest · 19/07/2019 22:17

I think they're a bit too similar. I absolutely adore both but I wouldn't use both.

hello365 · 19/07/2019 22:49

I'm pronouncing Acacia like the tree, like this

Flooopers · 19/07/2019 23:43

Waaaay too similar.

babysharkah · 19/07/2019 23:46

Just makes me think of bark.

Namechangedonceagain · 20/07/2019 04:55

Cassia is lovely but there's something wrong with Acacia that I can't put my finger on. Maybe it's the "shuh" sound at the end that I don't like, or the fact that I think it will get shortened to Casey? It seems a bit naff and American. But Cassia is beautiful. Much classier. Names have a very different vibe so are different in that way but the sounds of the names are, I think, too similar for siblings.

Owlbert · 20/07/2019 10:31

Will they be twins? If so I think yes too similar, if not twins and one name is already established then I think it would probably be ok!

diddlediddle · 20/07/2019 10:36

Too similar. And Cassie sounds like a nickname for Acacia.

TigerQuoll · 20/07/2019 10:48

Don't call your child Acacia if they will ever have any plans to visit Australia

user1493494961 · 20/07/2019 18:08

Too similar. You would end up with Cassie and Casey.
