I've met 3 baby Amandas in the last fortnight. It's a perfectly normal name but I wouldn't have thought it due a revival yet.
What do you think?

Just makes me think of Friends, "A man... duh!" Grin

TemporaryPermanent · 11/07/2019 23:01

A friend's used it. Mildly taken aback when I first heard it as I thought like you it wasn't 'ready' for a revival yet, but actually it's a great name and of course now my dear friend's dd has it I love it. Quite glad she's not a Mandy though.

SometimesItRains · 11/07/2019 23:01

Friends here too. Agree it seems to recent to be revived just yet.

SometimesItRains · 11/07/2019 23:02

Or rather ‘too’ Blush

TitsMcGeeee · 11/07/2019 23:02

It still feels very much a name for a 40 something, to me. Especially if shortened to Mandy!

MollyHuaCha · 11/07/2019 23:07

I like it. Dislike Mandy.

But it would be difficult to stop friends calling her Mandy (or Mand).

Kokeshi123 · 12/07/2019 00:16

I quite like it (I love Restoration comedy, which is where the name originates from). I think I would have to preemptively introduce Ammi as a nickname though, in order to prevent Mandy.

DramaAlpaca · 12/07/2019 00:20

I quite like Amanda, but not any of the diminutives.

Growing up in the 70s there were three Amandas in our street, it was very popular then.

Rosiesandposies1 · 12/07/2019 01:58

I don’t like it, and like a pp I think of ‘a....man....duh’ horrible name (the 3 I know are evil b*s too)

LidoDeck · 12/07/2019 02:07

Man this is a retro name! Makes me think of the 70s/80s.

Charlottejbt · 12/07/2019 02:17

This is the middle name DD1 (14) has picked for her future daughter, and it's quite nice really. It does remind me of certain bitchy Amandas I've known, but I haven't told her that because she hasn't grown up with any Amandas so it's not really relevant to her. This could be a slow-burning trend.

Astronica · 12/07/2019 03:20

I wasn't keen on this in the 70s and 80s when it was popular, and it hasn't grown on me at all.

Watersnail · 12/07/2019 05:33

I really like it.

Gummibeary · 12/07/2019 10:29

I like Amanda. Lovely feminine name.

It makes a refreshing change from all the cutesy Ellies, Evies, Betsies, Elsies etc.

Pinktinker · 12/07/2019 13:28

Not a fan. Very 70s/80s.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 12/07/2019 13:32

I'm not keen because I have Miranda whom people often refer to as Amanda, even though her name isn't that unusual.

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2019 14:47

I like it. It doesn't have to be Mandy. Ammi is awful like 'Ammi the 'Amster.

Gummibeary · 12/07/2019 14:49

It's beautiful as it is. Amanda is easy to say, it doesn't need shortening.

DrDentyst · 12/07/2019 14:51

I've always really like it but I know a few Amanda's/Mandys so didn't use it for that reason.

I also really like Caroline, Karen, Samantha and Vanessa which are a of similar era.

Pemba · 12/07/2019 15:05

It was very popular in the 60s/70s so not sure really how well it will go down with others who are ruled by what's fashionable now. But if you love it, go your own way! It's a pretty name, nicer than a lot of those popular right now (eg Isla).

ThatCurlyGirl · 12/07/2019 16:22

Ooh I haven't met an Amanda in a good twenty years - what a lovely name! Think it's gorgeous and conjures up Sweet Valley High type imagery for some reason #TeamElizabethForevs

daisypond · 12/07/2019 17:09

I like it.

Fatkins · 12/07/2019 22:48

Oh that's quite surprising! I can't imagine a baby Amanda, although I know a few ranging from 50ish to 30ish yo, which is quite a big age range when I think about it...

I suppose it isn't a million miles away from Amelia, Amelie etc.

Gummibeary · 13/07/2019 13:45

Amanda sounds pretty. More memorable than Amelia or Amelie of which there are so many.
