Can I use the name Elizabeth if I don't like the nickname Liz?

Elizabeth has always been my favourite name, and I like nearly all associated nicknames (favourites are Libby, Beth, and Lizzy)

However, I can't abide Liz. It just doesn't sound nice imo (sorry to any Liz's out there!!) and I would hate to call my child this.
I am aware that DD could pick her own NN as she gets older, and is Liz always the default NN? Would I be ridiculous to consider Elizabeth if I hate Liz?

I have an Elisabeth, no-one's ever tried to call her Liz. Her nickname has always been Lily (not deliberately, I'd actually envisaged Beth as a nice NN).

One elderly lady calls her Little Lizzy, but it's meant affectionately and she only sees her once a year, so I just smile and wave...

There's an Elisabeth in my family. The 's' tends to stop people saying Lizzie or Liz. I've mostly heard Elizabeths being called Libby, Buffy, Beth, and Eliza.

The only young Elizabeths I've met are Libby, Lizzy, Beth or Elizabeth.
The only Liz I know is my auntie Liz and she's in her 70s!
I love Libby and Beth - it's one of those names where you can choose the nickname when they are young imo.

I teach a Betsy who's full name is Elizabeth and I love it

Elizabeth was my preferred name for dd2 but I also don't like Liz. I decided I couldn't take the risk as I really don't like Liz. However I do still love the full name plus Libby as a short version.
I think it depends on how much you love the name Vs dislike Liz!

Off-track slightly but I really like Lisbeth

So many shortenings. Just pick a different one to use and it will stick.
Announce it like the Royals: 'Elizabeth Jasmine to be known as Beth'.

My 5 month old Elizabeth is either Elizabeth or Lilibet.
We have yet to settle on a short/nick name for her really. I wasn't really expecting my husband to finally agree to Elizabeth, so I didn't think too deeply about it!
