Sol for a boy..... Yes or No?
How would you pronounce it?
Does it work well as a Stand Alone Name?
Would it go with older brother Noah?
Thanks.

I like it! But i also prefer the alternate spelling - Saul. 🍀💙

NormHonal · 04/07/2019 21:40

Ok. I’m going to bite, be charitable, and assume this is real.

Let’s try the supermarket/summer test.

Imagine shouting “Noah, Sol” out of the back of the house on a hot day. Or across a supermarket.

Try it.

BlueJag · 04/07/2019 21:47

My sister was called Maria Sol. I don't think is used much for boys. Means sun in Spanish as others said.

NameChange30 · 04/07/2019 22:04

"i also prefer the alternate spelling - Saul"

It's not an alternative spelling, it's a completely different name. Well, Saul is an actual name. Sol is a nickname for Solomon. And they're pronounced differently. (Saul rhymes with Paul, Sol rhymes with doll.)

Lycanthropology · 04/07/2019 23:39

And they're pronounced differently. (Saul rhymes with Paul, Sol rhymes with doll.)

Well Saul, Paul, doll and Sol all rhyme with each other to me, so they’re not pronounced differently by everyone.

I agree with others, OP, Sol is a nickname, and Saul is much better.

Lycanthropology · 04/07/2019 23:40

Sorry, first line was quoted and should have been highlighted.

heartoftheocean · 05/07/2019 00:02

How do these sound? Any preference?
Sol Jacob or
Jacob Sol

Sophronia · 05/07/2019 00:19

I prefer Saul

PinkFluffyFairy · 05/07/2019 00:28

I love it and would have called my baby it had she have been a boy. I would pronounce it Soul.

laurabmummyof3 · 05/07/2019 00:44

I agree Lycan, these names rhyme when said in some regional accents. This is the case for me and therefore Saul and Sol are not completely different names I pronounce them identically. I really wish MN could be more light hearted at times. 😩

grufallosfriends · 05/07/2019 06:54

I prefer Saul. Pronounced like Paul, so a longer sound.

Sol has a shorter o sound. A bit more like soll.

AllStar14 · 05/07/2019 07:04

I like it, but prefer the Saul spelling.

heartoftheocean · 05/07/2019 07:37

If you check the name statistics Sol has been a given name since 1880.......

Saw the name and thought beer.

BarryBarryTaylor · 05/07/2019 08:29

I’m genuinely surprised at the bashing Sol has had. I really like it 😊

SoftBlocks · 05/07/2019 08:30

Like it.

averythinline · 05/07/2019 08:36

Jacob Sol

I think Jacob works better with Noah , I think its because both 2 syllables - Sol sounds a bit 'short' compared to Noah ..

Owlbert · 05/07/2019 13:53

I really like Sol. Not as keen on Jacob but ok as a middle name.

heartoftheocean · 05/07/2019 18:35

Thank you for the last few really positive responses. Its convinced me to put on my list as a first name 😊 Currently like Sol Jacob.

I really like it

lilpumpsmum · 07/07/2019 18:22

I like it. There's a couple of footballers named Sol - Campbell and Bamba.

It's nice, cheery!

villamariavintrapp · 07/07/2019 18:35

It's not Sol Campbell or Sol Bamba's actual name though, just nicknames. I prefer Saul, or short for Solomon.

BarryBarryTaylor · 07/07/2019 18:41

I love Sol and when I suggested it to DH he said no it’s Sol Campbell (husband is a Manchester United fan 🤷🏻‍♀️)

lilpumpsmum · 07/07/2019 18:41

Ah yes true. Solomon and Souleymane I believe.

So maybe Solomon or Saul?

They both match your biblically named DS1
Smile

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/07/2019 18:42

I like it, it sounds a happy name. Makes me think of Sol Campbell.
